Who We Need
As a Clinical Coder, you shall be responsible for the timely and accurate analysis of clinical statements for the assignment of standard DRG codes using a classification system in compliance to the Australian code standards for ICD 10AM. Your responsibilities are as stated below.
- Perform clinical coding of separations using the 3M Code Finder and ICD 10 AM coding books / eBooks, dictionary, coding authority and any other resources when necessary for all diagnostic and procedural information documented every inpatient and day surgery discharges.
- Complete clinical coding within 96 hours of discharge.
- Liaise with internal / external clinical coders regarding coding queries and coordinate follow-up of queries with clinicians.
- Ensure quality of coding and medical case notes completeness with effective clinician engagements to clarify incomplete or ambiguity from clinical documentation in the process of clinical coding.
- Monitor and evaluate coding statistics to ensure targets and key performance indicators are met.
- Report to the Head of Department Medical Record Office regularly on the status of coding and issues relating to the evaluation of information and any significant trends that are observed.
- Ensure confidentiality for patient information used in data collection and reporting systems.
- Adhere to statutory regulations and hospital policies and procedures.
- Develop close working relationships with clinicians, nurses, and overall hospital staff, to support an understanding of the various mechanisms of information collection and its use in evidence-based decision making.
- Assist department with key responsibilities, including clerical, reporting, medico-legal etc. as required.
- Undertake projects and quality improvement activities where requested by the Head of Department Clinical Quality & Informatics.
- Participate in departmental audits as well as external audits for self-assessment, periodic review and accreditation.
- Complete all yearly mandatory training competencies.
How to Succeed
- Possess a Degree qualified in Health Information Management/Medical Record Administration or equivalent competency through clinical coding experience.
- Recognized Clinical Coding qualification is an advantage.
- Participate in hospital audits and accreditation and actively review hospital wide quality improvement projects.
- Be the point of contact for MAH accredited Specialists and their clinic managers for all matters pertaining to Medical Records.
- Experience in computerized patient administration systems and applications including coding software.
- At least 1 year of working experience as a Clinical Coder.
