Anglo American’s Marketing business was formed in 2012 to change the way our commodity products (including platinum, copper, nickel, iron ore, and steelmaking coal) are sold to customers. This includes providing a seamless mine-to-market value chain and shifting the commercial mindset of Anglo American to that of a customer-centric partner that recognizes the full value of its materials solutions.
The purpose of the Marketing BU is to sustainably maximize cash flows from the marketing of Anglo American products and services. In support of this, we have set ourselves a target to deliver a considerable uplift in Value.
Marketing aims to deliver additional value by implementing a trading strategy to exploit opportunities through more asset-backed trading. To achieve our ambitious goals, we will leverage our equity production, our customer relationships, and our network/sales operations activities.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Graduate with excellent analytic and problem-solving skills, drive, and a passion for information management, to support the internal teams. This position is a great opportunity to experience the real world of a global trade and learn about the intricacies of commodities.
What you’ll do
Become a key member of the Marketing IM development team working across a number of initiatives to deliver high quality application and integration components in support of Marketing’s technology strategy.
Performance & Delivery
- Develop and implement system components that are periphery to the Trading (Aspect) & Shipping (Veson) transaction using our inhouse systems framework: CORE, while ensuring that the coding standards, release procedures, architecture and quality standards are met.
- Ensure the knowledge underpinning any new application is documented, managed, and maintained.
- Work with the team to identify, plan and execute service improvements to those systems that are developed.
- Understand the business processes and flows to enable the development of solutions.
- Work with project teams to manage service introduction and deployment.
- Understand approaches such as Agile and Design Thinking.
- Understand project management and system architecture.
- Work on team assignment with other Graduates.
What we’re looking for
An undergraduate qualification (Bachelor's degree or equivalent), ideally in a business degree (Computer Science, Management).
Specific knowledge requirements:
- Agile Project management is a plus.
- Programming with Python, C Sharp, Java script or other similar language is a plus.
- Understanding of commodities covering trading, operations, risk management and financial accounting is a plus.
- Finance, Accounting and Taxation is a plus
