RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support faculty, researchers and students in their research and development work
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to university staff and students regarding system-related issues, including hardware, software, package dependencies, and network problems.
- Respond to service requests, diagnose problems, and offer timely solutions to ensure minimal disruptions.
- Triage, troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with end users.
- Develop and maintain process, procedures, and guidelines.
- Conduct training workshops to educate and create awareness among researchers/students on
- system-related topics (e.g. OS Hardening, Application patching).
- IT best practices.
- Security standards and practices.
- Security compliance standards.
- Policies and Compliance
- Collaborate with IITS security to ensure Cybersecurity compliance in accordance with MOE security posture for IHL (Institute of Higher Learning) as well as providing related updates and reports.
- Evaluate and recommend security policies, or technologies, and strategies to counter evolving IT security threats and trends.
- Assist in the formulation, management, and planning of IT security policies, tailored to safeguard SMU Research interests.
- Security controls and monitoring
- Establish and manage security controls to safeguard research systems and data, pro-actively preventing security incidents.
- Monitor security logs and systems for potential incidents, initiating timely responses and investigations.
- Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify, mitigate, and report risks.
- Lead incident response efforts, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to resolve security breaches.
- Assist in forensic investigations and contribute to continuous improvement of security policies and procedures.
- Reporting and Communication
- Provide management with updates on key security developments, proposing effective solutions and recommendations.
- Develop and review reports as part of regular deliverables, presenting insights and progress on security initiatives.
- Prepare and provide report for all cybersecurity and data breaches incident based on MOE reporting template.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a similar capacity.
- Diploma in Information Technology (or equivalent) with 4 years relevant experience may be considered.
- Administration of Windows and Linux (server and desktop), cloud (AWS, Azure) platforms.
- Configuration of sensors and embedded systems.
- Sound knowledge in Web application vulnerabilities, such as OWASP Top 10, Cross-site Scripting, Application Security and SQL injections.
- Good Knowledge of security standards, best practices, and risk assessment with analytical skill.
- VMware virtualization and administration.
- Technology and Business Acumen: A strong understanding of technology trends, as well as the ability to align IT security initiatives with business objectives.
- A self-starter, always striving for excellence, innovative with service-oriented mindsets and initiative to improve processes.
- Attention to details, sound decision-making abilities, Independent, with initiative, positive attitude and keen interest in exploring the areas of systems and IT security.
- Good interpersonal verbal and writing skills.

- Network configuration on servers and network switches.
- Administration of enterprise software.
- Data centre administration.
- Experience with Linux operating systems and system administration.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
