Associate, Global Portfolio Management

Role Purpose

As we continue to grow our global business, CBRE Investment Management has the need for an Associate within the Global Portfolio Management team. Working for some of our largest global separate account mandates out of Europe, the Global Portfolio Management function is a critical part of our operation.

The role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to work for CBRE Investment Management as a leading provider of global real estate solutions in an international team on global separate account portfolios with various forms of execution (funds, clubs, co-investments, programmatic ventures). The candidate will have a direct impact on the growth of the global separate account business and be involved in the formulation of strategies for multiple clients across the globe.

CBRE Investment Management is the wholly owned independently managed, investment management affiliate of the world’s leading real estate services firm, CBRE Inc. It has over $129.1 billion of real estate assets under management globally on behalf of 700 institutional investors and employs approximately 880 employees in over 30 offices worldwide.

Indirect Private Real Estate (“Indirect RE”) is a division of CBRE Investment Management dedicated to investments with operating partners via primary funds, secondaries, co-investments and joint ventures. Indirect RE differentiates from the direct investment side of CBRE Investment Management by always investing with a local operating partner in every transaction. Indirect RE has AUM of $40.8bn. Clients invest via separate accounts, many of which have a global remit, as well as pooled funds.

Indirect Private Real Estate is a fully integrated business line within CBRE Investment Management. In addition to the investment and portfolio management team there is access to shared resources such as investor services, financial and middle office operations, analytics, legal counsel, risk management and IT systems development functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Focus on the management of some of our largest global separate accounts, most with a low risk orientation. This will involve portfolio construction, active participation in the review of investment proposals, on-going monitoring of investments and portfolios and reporting to clients through production of quarterly reports and client presentations;
• The candidate will be actively involved in preparing client investment plans and ensure that portfolios are positioned in accordance with market views and recommended strategies within the restrictions;
• The candidate will be expected to actively contribute on client projects and provide responses to client requests, supported by analyst contributions;
• The candidate will be required to have a thorough understanding of the forecast returns for individually managed holdings and maintain awareness of relevant issues that may impact portfolios;
• The candidate will be part of the Global Portfolio Management team and will demonstrate effective collaboration within CBRE Investment Management (regional investment teams, financial operations team and Analytics) as well as the wider firm;
• The successful candidate will be involved in new client pursuits and over time become responsible for the management of some separate account clients.

Person Specification

• 5 to 8 years relevant industry experience; real estate investment background preferably with experience in a related field (economics/finance/investment);
• Strong sense of responsibility for designated clients, focus on high degree of client satisfaction and delivering to a high standard of production;
• Ability to prioritise and co-ordinate tasks efficiently ensuring all deadlines are met:

1. Accurate under time pressure and exceptional attention to detail;
2. Enjoys working autonomously and as part of a wider team with good interpersonal skills;
3. Understands and appreciates the importance of using discretion, and
4. Flexible approach to work and willingness/ability to travel.

• Requires expert level analytical and quantitative skills with proven experience;
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing;
• Strong work ethic and ambition;
• Must be degree educated and preferably have a relevant economics, finance, or real estate qualification.
