How you will create an impact
Working in the Singapore based Global Tax - Asia team, you are expected to manage all aspects of tax operations for an assigned portfolio of countries within Asia.
You will be the primary tax contact for your countries, and will be expected to proactively develop and manage key stakeholder relationships with the business and other functions within Finance. As you will maintain key relationships for your countries, you will collaborate with our Shared Service Center providers and Regional/Global Tax SMEs as required (e.g. Controllership, Advisory/Controversy, Strategy, Transfer Pricing, Indirect Taxes and Employment Taxes).
The role will primarily be split as follows (subject to business needs):
Tax Controversy/Risk/Audit Defense
- Management of tax controversy matters.
- Understand tax risks and prepare appropriate response letters.
- Liaise and attend to meetings with local tax authorities (where appropriate).
- As required, work with service providers or the business to obtain information.
- Identify tax risk and uncertain tax positions, and proactively drive preparation of audit defense support.
Tax Advisory
- Keep abreast of tax law changes and proactively research and communicate implications of such changes to the tax team and the business.
- Undertake research and present findings on ad hoc queries arising from local, regional or global stakeholders.
- Research and communicate tax implications on new products and other business transactions.
- Perform contract review and collaborate with Legal and Tax subject matter experts as required to minimize tax burden.
- Involve in tax projects where applicable
Tax Compliance
- Responsible for the timely and accurate filing of the income tax returns.
- Perform in-depth review of returns prior to lodgment.
- Identify/mitigate potential risk areas and prepare audit defense support.
- Identify potential opportunities and communicate to senior management.
- Work with external shared service providers and tax advisors to manage the return process.
- Perform tax health checks (where applicable)
Tax Operations
- Present tax views on ad hoc business operations initiatives (Tax or Non-Tax) at a Local, Regional or Global level.
- Challenge existing processes and proactively drive positive change in the business.
- Manage shared service provider relationships and continue to identify opportunities to leverage their services
US GAAP Reporting
- Collaborate with Tax Controllership lead and Regional Tax Analysts with respect to positions taken in tax returns, uncertain tax positions identified, tax controversy matters, cash tax projections and any other matter that may impact quarterly US GAAP Tax Reporting.
Managing People
- Responsibility for the management and development of a Tax Analyst.
- Undertake performance reviews and provide on-the-job training, coaching and mentoring.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Degree holder in Accounting or Finance.
- Chartered accountant, CPA or equivalent.
- Strong Tax experience
- Energetic with an enthusiastic, proactive and hands-on approach.
- Proven history of managing multiple tax projects with minimal supervision.
- Experience handling corporate direct and indirect taxes in the APAC region, with working knowledge of transfer pricing issues and implications.
- Ability to effectively work with and communicate tax advice to management.
- Must work well as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Experience liaising with external consultants
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Tax accounting experience. US GAAP tax accounting, FIN 48, and FIN18 preferred.
- Industry experience and knowledge advantageous.
