Job Description

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the effective delivery of optimal clinical care by nursing staff to residents in accordance with established policies, procedures, standards of nursing care and practices. Provide opinion and ideas to nursing strategy and to lead the operational implementation of those strategies.


Provide leadership and motivation to the nursing staff

  • Inspire and communicate the Home’s vision. Mission and core values to the nurse population.
  • Ensure that all nursing practices in the Centres are aligned to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Healthcare Services Act (HCSA) by carrying out periodic and audit checks.
  • Ensure that staff are trained in INFOCARE in the areas of Patient Management and Electronic Medical Record.
  • Set performance standards by example and inspire nurses to achieve them.
  • Act as role model, mentor, coach and counsellor to nurses.
  • Nurse Manager is the anchor of the Nursing Home

Staff Resources and achieving a high standard of care

  • Oversee a team of RN, EN, NA and HCA/HA under her charge.
  • Ensure good skill mix to ensure the staff on duty are able to provide the required duty of care to the residents.
  • Set goals and objectives for the wards.
  • Lead team to higher performance by monitoring the performance against the goals set.
  • Actively improve clinical standards by participating/using Clinical Practice Improvement Programme (CPIP).
  • Ensure that the centre is audit ready by MOH and other agencies. Follow-up with corrective actions.

Staff Development and Performance Management

  • Assess staff competency and identify staff learning needs.
  • Facilitates staff professional development, skills and competency upgrading through in-house training, assignments and formal courses.
  • Work with HR on the career advancement of staff based on their competencies.
  • Coordinate the Annual Performance Appraisal exercise with the staff nurses in charge of the wards.
  • Ensure that staff nurses with supervisory responsibilities are familiar with the methodology of the performance system.
  • Identify high performers of career development and plan guidance for poor performers.
  • Oversee the orientation programmes and preceptorship for all new nurses.

Budget and Inventory control

  • Prepare and steward annual budget to ensure that expenditures are planned and effectively utilized.
  • Monitor inventory of medicines, equipment and supplies.

Requirements

  • Post registration degree in Nursing and Advance Diploma in Gerontology or its equivalent
  • Valid practising licence with Singapore Nursing Board
  • At least 6 years’ experience in acute clinical setting and supervisory background.
