Singapore Art Museum opened in 1996 as the first art museum in Singapore. Also known as SAM, we present contemporary art from a Southeast Asian perspective for artists, art lovers and the art curious in multiple venues across the island, including a new venue in the historic port area of Tanjong Pagar.
SAM is building one of the world's most important public collections of Southeast Asian contemporary art, with the aim of connecting the art and the artists to the public and future generations through exhibitions and programmes. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to scholarship on contemporary art practice and its discourses by facilitating and supporting research and research activities of the Curatorial department.
- Develop and maintain physical and digital holdings of the SAM library collection, to include fulfilling curatorial requests, monitoring new releases/titles, cataloguing (cataloguing, metadata creation, accessioning), and keeping up with subscriptions and memberships.
- Managing library operations through administration of budgets and SOP for internal library use, maintaining library space and inventory, and scheduling regular stock.
- Expand the library collection and utility via interlibrary exchanges and in servicing collection and archival enquiries and image requests (internal and external), managing copyright permissions, facilitating access and retrieval, and working with institutional partners as necessary.
- Project manage the digitization of SAM's institutional archive, including coordinating and developing SOP and preservation processes for both digital and physical materials.
- Work with museum departments on the documentation of SAM exhibitions, events and programmes of archive and research value.
- Facilitate and administer integration of SAM's Archive collection (physical and digital) with the Gallery's Archive collection.
- Undertake other related duties and projects as assigned.
- Degree in Art History/ Humanities/ Social Sciences/ Library or Information Sciences /Museum Studies. Masters' degree in any of the above is a plus
- Keen interest in contemporary art practices in Singapore, Southeast Asia and international
- 4 or more years of working experience in a research, reference library and/or archives role
- Familiarity and experience in developing and operating library management system and databases (eg. Spydus & WorldCat), RFID system, as well as other library systems
- Effectively bilingual (i.e. to read and input texts in 2 languages); Fluency in Southeast Asian languages would be advantageous
- Experience in supervisory role is a plus
- Excellent organisational, communications and interpersonal skills
- Possess service-oriented mindset and disposition
- Able to work independently as well as be a team player where needed
- Strong research, writing, communication, financial and administrative skills
