Qualified Legal Counsel to oversee the commercial affairs for a group of businesses. You will safeguard our reputation by guaranteeing that the company strictly follows law guidelines and give legal advice to the board/Corporate management about all relevant issues not excluding.
The successful candidate will effectively ensure legal conformity and minimize probability of exposure. understand the pressure points, strategy and objectives of the business and effectively communicate the risks and legal issues involved in any decision to management/the board, enables management to make informed strategic choices within an acceptable legal risk profile. Area includes encompassing insurance law, corporate governance, employment law, intellectual property, data protection, and litigation.
Responsibilities and Duties
- To handle all tasks assigned by Head of Legal including conducting in-depth research, drafting & reviewing agreements and policies.
- Provide timely and precise counsel to the company on various legal matters including commercial and regulatory operations.
- Specify internal governance policies and ensure regular monitoring of compliance.
- Review and provide accurate and timely counsel to the legal team (Executives/Administrators) on a variety of legal issues including, labour law, partnerships, international ventures, tenancy agreements/contracts, and confidentiality agreements.
- Review, communicate, and negotiate with external parties such as notaries, regulators, external counsel, and public authorities, fostering relationships of trust, especially regarding patents, copyrights, trademarks, and related matters.
- Draft and finalize agreements, contracts, and other legal documents to secure the company’s full legal rights.
- Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to the board, Heads of Departments (HODs), and internal management.
- Collaborate with Operations, Finance, HR, Marketing departments, and Professional Development to ensure legal compliance for all transactions relating to legal rights, including special projects.
Requirements
· Completed a Bachelor of Law (LLB) undergraduate degree or a Juris Doctor (JD) postgraduate degree. Complete Practical Legal Training (PLT) with combined 3 to 8 years of education and training.
· A strong preference for candidates with tobacco or tobacco-related industry exposure
· Adaptable and a versatile mindset, comfortable working in stressful and fast-paced environment
· Incumbent to be commercially savvy as legal matters often involve multiple stakeholders, different legal issues and, more importantly, often a subset of the business function in an organisation.
· Preferably proven experience / records as a legal counsel in business environment
