Director, Marketing, South, Southeast Asia and Oceania

Summary:

You will report to Senior Vice President, Marketing, and provide leadership, coaching and management to the marketing managers for the assigned markets while meeting or exceeding the sales plans for the region.

In collaboration with the Senior Vice President, Marketing and with the support of the regional marketing managers, this role develops and executes on country specific marketing strategies to achieve country and customer volume goals while managing and developing customer relationship and market development activities.

Together with the marketing managers, you will monitor and analyze market fundamentals and competitor activity in each country and participate and make recommendations to the Senior Vice President, Marketing on the pricing and volume strategies throughout the year and for annual planning. You will also lead the marketing managers to develop and update shipment plans and shipping forecasts throughout the year. This role also collaborates with Operations, Legal, Sales Administration and the Executive Leadership Team to ensure that sale plans are executed to meet customer requirements as well as internal sales targets while maximizing operating efficiency.


Job Description:

  • In collaboration with the Senior Vice President, Marketing, leads the Singapore based marketing team and directs the marketing, sales, sale planning, customer relationship/management and market development activities for assigned countries in the region of responsibility.
  • Develops and executes Market Strategies including volume and pricing recommendations for each country and customer throughout the assigned region and under the direction and guidance of the Senior Vice President, Marketing and Canpotex Limited.
  • Leads and manages the marketing team towards achieving organizational, department and individual objectives; creates a team environment which fosters and develops effective working relationships and high performance; and provides consistent communication and feedback, coaching, mentoring and motivation for employees.
  • Collaborates with internal strategy and marketing teams to prepare and update annual and long-term marketing strategies with individual plans and tactics for each region, country and customers to achieve overall commercial objectives.
  • Identifies new markets and customers and develops strategies to expand Canpotex's customer and business base.
  • Builds and maintains long term business relationships with existing customers to achieve mutual long-term business objectives.
  • In coordination with Senior Vice President, Marketing and Marketing Managers, leads the negotiation and conclusion of sales contracts as directed by Canpotex Limited.
  • Understands and maintains a line of sight through the entire sales fulfillment cycle including documentation, execution and follow up of shipment, discharge, claims and collection of receivables, as directed by Canpotex Limited.
  • Collaborates with Operations team to plan shipments to optimize delivery efficiency and economies of scale; provides long- and short-term forecasts for operations planning purposes.
  • In coordination with the Senior Vice President, Marketing, develop forecasting and administer the annual budget in accordance with corporate objectives and developing market projections.
  • Responsible for having a wholistic understanding of the markets in region of responsibility and in addition to Singapore based colleagues collaborate closely with Marketing Team members based in Shanghai, Sao Paulo and Saskatoon.
  • Monitors competitor and regional market activities and adapt sales plans and execution strategies as conditions evolve to maximize opportunities and minimize risks; maintains acute awareness of all marketing regions and how market conditions impact marketing strategy and operations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Agronomy, Business, Economics or a related field.
  • Minimum ten (10) years' experience in international marketing and sales in fertilizer or related industry.
  • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years' experience in a Marketing Manager role people management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the fertilizer industry and knowledge of the geographic area of responsibility.
  • In-depth understanding of different cultures and business practices in international business with specific knowledge on various markets.
  • Strong knowledge of the global potash industry and competitors as well as working knowledge of nitrogen and phosphate industry.
  • Strong knowledge of the Saskatchewan potash industry and practices, which is the potash source.
  • Solid understanding of bulk logistics and bulk shipping fundamentals.
  • Language skills within the designated markets including fluency and proficiency in English.
  • Ability to travel internationally as required, which may include weekends, holidays and on short notices.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written in English, coupled with the ability to manage conflict and diffuse situations appropriately.
  • Demonstrate ability in building and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrate ability to uphold the highest degree of ethics and integrity.
  • Ability to lead and manage employees collaboratively, utilizing effective team building skills, coaching, mentoring, communication, and management techniques.
  • Demonstrate skill in business acumen including a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, sound judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills, including conceptualizing, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information to continually improve processes.
  • Use vision and innovation to think beyond the immediate situation and explore multiple potential paths; demonstrates the initiative to think creatively and commercially to maximize value for shareholders.
