Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Assistant in the Department of Computer Science, School of Computing (SoC). SoC is strongly committed to research excellence in all its dimensions: Searching for fundamental results and insights, developing novel computational solutions to a wide range of applications, building large-scale experimental systems and improving the well-being of society. We seek to play an active role both internationally and locally in the core and emerging areas of Computer Science and Information Systems.
The appointee will assist in implementing the navigation component of an assistive drone for people with visual impairment. This work has a potential social impact and may lead to a research publication.
The roles and responsibilities include:
- Develop and evaluate real-time vision algorithms to assist with drone navigation
- Develop and evaluate drone navigation planning algorithms
- Plan and conduct research experiments
- Write and present research results as reports/papers
- Present demos
- Assist with day-to-day research tasks in the DroneBuddy project
Qualifications
- Solid technical background in computing or engineering (with Honours Distinction or above)
- Deep experience with 3D computer vision algorithms and robotics systems (took relevant courses and did relevant individual projects)
- Knowledge in optimizing systems and algorithm performance
- Strong communication skills in English
- Strong software engineering skills
