Job Overview:

We are seeking a visionary and innovative Director of Learning and Teaching to lead our school's academic programs and pedagogical approach. The Director will be responsible for fostering a culture of excellence, creativity, and collaboration among our faculty and students, and for ensuring that our teaching and learning practices align with our school's mission and values.This is a unique opportunity for an experienced international educator who wants to join a talented leadership team to create an international school that will reshape teaching and learning in Singapore. The International School - Singapore will provide a world-class education, highlighted by innovative pedagogy and curriculum that will be guided by best practices based on cognitive science and the exciting opportunities available through leveraging the digital revolution.


The Director of Learning and Teaching’s critical leadership roles and specific expectations are as follows:


1. Senior Faculty Recruiter and Professional Leader


Understand the Head’s/school’s vision for the faculty.
Work closely with the Head of School and other senior leaders to shape our school's strategic direction and goals
Stay abreast of best practices in progressive education and educational research, and lead our school's efforts to integrate new ideas and approaches into our teaching and learning practices
Take the lead in recruiting, including traveling to job fairs.
Make recommendations to the HOS regarding the hiring, retention, and individual assignments of the faculty.
Conduct regular meetings with faculty to introduce new ideas or to maintain momentum on initiatives.
Coordinate the efforts of department heads and faculty committees.
Document major academic concerns and communicate such concerns to parents and students, and write letters of academic concern, warning, and probation.
Take leadership of the school's academic integrity program.
Develop a professional learning community among the faculty.



2. Faculty Coach

Collaborate with faculty to design and deliver innovative, student-centered, and project-based learning experiences
Foster a culture of continuous professional growth and development among faculty, providing coaching, mentoring, and support as needed
Develop and manage programs to support teacher leadership, mentorship, and peer collaboration
Oversee the evaluation and assessment of student learning, and work with faculty to develop and implement effective assessment and feedback practices
Establish programs for the orientation of new teachers, including the explanation of school mission, core values, policies, and procedures.
Observe, supervise, and help formatively evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum.
Supervise the teaching-learning process and evaluate the academic programs, in coordination with division heads.
Lead and be responsible for the school’s Professional Learning program for all teachers.


3. Faculty Role Model

Model to the greatest extent possible the characteristics of faculty excellence
Embody the qualities of same and review them with faculty regularly.


4. Faculty Advocate

Voice faculty perspective to the school’s leadership, including the Head of School.
Keep in touch with concerns of the group and its individual members.


5. Faculty culture

Lead the effort to integrate the local and international faculty to create a positive and unified faculty culture.
Promote a growth-focused faculty.
Be supportive of faculty initiatives.
Foster and support collegiality




Necessary Qualifications

MA degree in an education field
12-15 years of teaching experience, with some of those years in an international environment
Successful experience guiding a faculty towards collegiality and collaboration.
Strong understanding of curricular frameworks such as UBD, PBL, Inquiry-based learning and interdisciplinary learning.
Experience with the inclusion of P21 elements into teaching practice.
Successful experience with implementing faculty evaluation models
Familiarity with the International Curriculum Association is desirable.
