Job Description
This role which is the Lead of Student Personal Development and Support, is responsible for providing leadership in developing and executing strategies to enhance the psychological safety, well-being, and personal development of Duke-NUS students. Working closely with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Student Academic Support Lead and the MD Curriculum Team, the successful candidate will deliver counselling, coaching, and other psychological support services as part of the School's comprehensive student support programme.
This role also involves coordinating student support initiatives, teaching topics relevant to personal development, professionalism, and well-being, as well as contributing to educational scholarship, participating in relevant committees, and performing administrative duties.
- Develop, execute, and evaluate School-wide strategies to foster psychological safety, well-being, resilience, and personal development among students.
- Provide individualised counselling and other psychological support services to students as needed, including crisis intervention and sessions outside regular office hours when necessary.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Lead for Academic Support Services to help students manage the high demands of medical school and personal life, ultimately promoting academic success.
- Work with the Student Affairs team and MD Programme Department to identify at-risk students, provide multi-faceted support, and recognise early indicators of concern, addressing various difficulties such as academic, psychological, or professionalism issues.
- Collaborate with education faculty on components of the longitudinal CARE programme focused on personal development and professionalism.
- Stay current with best practices and emerging trends in student mental health and well- being in medical education.
- Contribute to educational scholarship, participate in relevant committees, and perform administrative duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs.
- Uphold Duke-NUS values and work collaboratively to support the School's mission and programmes.
Job Requirements
- PhD or Master's degree in Psychology, Counselling, or other related fields.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience, including counselling, psychotherapy, and/or coaching.
- Prior work experience in an academic environment, preferably in Student Affairs or support services, would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing strategies to enhance student well-being and resilience.
- Have strong crisis intervention and risk assessment skills.
- Possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Able to work effectively with diverse students, faculty, and staff.
- Committed to contributing to a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Have passion for student development and medical education
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
