Founded in 1988, Campbell Lutyens (“CL”) is a global and independent private capital advisor, focused on fund placement, secondary advisory and GP capital advisory (“GPCA”) services. The firm has a team of more than 190 operating from offices in London, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Paris, Chicago, Los Angeles and Charlotte.


Our GP capital advisory (“GPCA”) practice provides M&A advisory and other strategic advice to alternative asset managers globally and specifically in private markets (e.g. venture capital, private equity, private debt, infrastructure and real asset). The private markets fund managers are known as General Partners, or “GPs”. The GPCA practice is our most recent growth area and a new team is being assembled out of our London office, with a view to augment it with a local US presence in the coming years. Deal flow is very strong across US, Europe and Asia and the GPCA team is working on several live sell-side mandates with alternative managers ranging from

€2bn to €20bn AUM in different parts of the world.


Over the past 30 years, Campbell Lutyens has grown to be the largest independent advisory firm of its type, providing global expertise with local knowledge and relationships. We have also been consistently recognised as the leading fund placement and secondaries advisor globally.

Job Purpose

The Senior Associate sits in the recently formed GP capital advisory (“GPCA”) practice and will suit professionals with between three and five years of work experience gained in the M&A team of a leading bank or a recognised boutique.


The purpose of the role of Associate – GPCA is the following:


- Second-in-command professional supporting the deal lead in the execution of GPCA advisory mandates/transactions


- Provide clients with a unique perspective on key strategic decisions, leveraging the firm’s exceptional and longstanding relationships with GPs and investors, gained through the fund placement and secondary advisory businesses over more than 30 years


- Provide clients with specialist advice on a wide range of transactions, including minority equity investments and M&A on a global basis


- Create relationships with and maintain a network of core GP Capital Advisory investors at peers / peers+ levels


- Assist on the execution of the firm’s origination efforts, as required


- Oversee, manage and develop junior colleagues in the deal team


- Assist on the build-up of the GPCA practice

Person Specification

- Five to six years of prior work experience gained in the M&A team of a leading bank or a recognized boutique, or the investment team of a GP stake investment group


- Excellent understanding of the asset management / private markets industry on a global basis


- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rigorous work environment; demonstrated ability to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines


- Strong financial modelling skills, analytical skills, attention to detail

Client Delivery / Service/ Execution


Transaction process


- Leads aspects of the transaction while working on several mandates

- Liaises with advisors

- Due diligence coordination

- Responsible for data room management and organization, including setting up disclaimers, Q&A, appropriate settings, etc.


Marketing Materials


- Ability to provide elements of first draft of pitchbooks and various transaction marketing materials, such as: company profiles, teasers, process letters, information memoranda, board papers


Legal documentation


- Responsible for providing first draft of pitchbook and managing overall set of transaction documents, including: company profile, teaser, process letters, information memoranda, board papers, business plan


Buyside interaction


- Day to day contact for buyside queries during process


Client interaction


- Keeps client involved and informed throughout a project; manages their expectations and ability to maintain the required level of confidentiality dealing with sensitive client matter and information


Technical Expertise


General

- Able to problem solve


Work Quality

- Accurate with excellent attention to detail delivered in a timely way, meeting deadlines


Financial

- Extensive experience in building operating and financial models

- Excellent valuation skills using various methodologies (especially trading comps, transaction comps and DCF)

- Ability to build bespoke transaction models with minimal assistance from deal lead

- Maintain and update a set of trading comps

- Maintain and track minority and majority transactions involving alternative and traditional asset managers

- Produce analysis as requested

- Advise on and review of Executive modelling work


Presentations and written work

- Ability to produce clean and consistent document

- Able to produce presentation sections

- High quality without typos

- Able to produce technically-excellent written materials


Research/ Data Analysis

- Insightful and thoughtful

- Ability to navigate multiple databases/providers

Buyside coverage

- Ability to create relationships with GP Capital Advisory investors (Specialist funds, Asset Managers, Institutional Investors)

- Expected to build a small network of core relationships which are regularly met every 6 months


Holistic CL

- Continued peer relationships across the firm including different teams and offices

- Ability to learn how to articulate primary product, understand fundraising process, understand secondary market fundamentals and CL offering

- Understand key GP assessment selection criteria/ issues

- Involved in firm-building activities (involved in at least 1 team / location/ companywide internal project) - in the case of GPCA it will be helping the build- out of the vertical

- Records meeting notes and related information in the CL CRM (CLICK) in an accurate and timely way
