(A) Job Summary:

The Head of Business Development for Business Innovation is responsible for finding, evaluating and developing new business opportunities for Obayashi in South East Asia.

(B) Essential Job Functions:

The Head of Business Development is responsible, but not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate to build a strategy, plan and goals for the Business Innovation team in South East Asia, including recommendations on different options and the best paths to launch new businesses.
  • Evaluate the market potential and strategy for launching HQ new business initiatives in South East Asia and as needed play an active, hands-on role in launching new businesses.
  • Plan the best strategies and approach to launch new businesses.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in corporate innovation, startups and the construction industry and share insights, learnings, and opportunities.
  • Build relationships with key ecosystem players including but not limited to government, education, startups and other businesses and organizations.
  • Collaborate to evaluate the opportunity for venture investments in the region, including building and keeping updated an investment thesis.
  • Collaborate with Obayashi Construction-Tech Lab Singapore and TRI to identify any opportunities to commercialize new technologies.
  • Work as needed with Obayashi stakeholders across Asia, Japan and the US.

(C) Minimum Qualifications / Job Experience:

  • Proven working experience as a business development manager, sales executive or a relevant role
  • Proven sales track record
  • Knowledge of corporate innovation
  • Experience managing projects and creating strategies
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CRM software (e.g. Salesforce)
  • Proficiency in English
  • Market knowledge
  • Communication and negotiation skills
  • Time management and planning skills
  • 10 years of B2B working experience an advantage
  • May require overseas business travel

(D) Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • BSc/BA in business administration, sales, marketing or relevant field
  • Able to work independently and as a team
  • Good time management skills with exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks/ projects at one time
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Japanese
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines
  • High in business acumen and analytical thinking skills
  • Good knowledge of MS Office skills
