As a Horticulturist (Research & Horticulture), you will support both the operational and horticultural research activities within our glasshouse facilities. Your responsibilities will include maintaining the plants by fertilizing, removing spent blooms, and performing other related horticultural tasks. You will also be involved in managing plant health through the application of insecticides, fungicides, and plant growth regulators as needed.
Beyond basic maintenance, your duties will include sowing seeds, sticking cuttings, transplanting young plants, filling pots, and spacing out plants to ensure optimal growth conditions. You will assist in the propagation and production of plants, working closely with the horticulture team to support the development of plants for displays and trials.
This role will involve the careful monitoring of plant health, including the identification and treatment of pests and diseases under the guidance of senior staff. You will help with the organization and maintenance of the facility, including housekeeping and ensuring the proper storage and inventory of horticultural materials. Additionally, you will contribute to the implementation of research initiatives by supporting trials and other research activities.
While this role is primarily focused on hands-on work with plants, you may also be called upon to take on additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the horticulture team.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field
- Proven experience in glasshouse management or horticultural research
- Knowledge of plant propagation, pest management, and growing techniques
- Excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Good knowledge of various computer software and applications including Microsoft Office
