Senior Technical UX Writer

JOB SUMMARY

  • We are looking for a Technical Writer to produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our API products. You will join a team of talented content strategists and designers who work collaboratively with developers, quality engineers, product managers, and usability experts to make our products easier to use.

RESPONSIBILITIES​​​​​​​

• Write, edit and review new and existing client-facing technical documentation
• Use brand-approved templates to ensure documentation meets Standard Chartered brand guidelines
• Align with colleagues working in the API content and design space to ensure consistency of content & Meet with internal stakeholders to understand their products and documentation needs

Strategy

  • Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the API product suite and the documentation requirements
  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience
  • Write easy-to-understand user interface text, online help and developer guides
  • Create tutorials to help end-users use a variety of API related applications
  • Analyse existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities
  • Work with the content strategist to execute the designer approach to API related content

Business

  • Our team services the entire Corporate and Institutional Banking domain. This includes corporate banking and trading platforms, API developer platforms, and internal employee productivity tools and services. Your initial focus will be on API marketplace for the Straight 2 Bank portal.

Processes

  • You need to be familiar with the concepts of design language systems, component libraries, and UI best practices. You must be able to structure your time, and be capable of taking the initiative. Your delivery responsibilities span prototyping, testing, working with engineers on the quality assurance processes. You understand and operate in Scrum and Agile methodologies

Risk Management

  • Our team is responsible for delivering quality tool and service design, that is meant to enable colleagues and customers. In doing so, we must be careful with data management and play our part in ensuring we protect it and that our designs take this into consideration. Risk management is interwoven in our design activities and you will need to ensure that risk is always a consideration throughout your design process all the way to delivery.

Governance

  • Our team contributes the Design Community of Practice, we inform design governance decisions in the Bank. As part of our responsibility, we must oversee areas such as career progression, mentorship, tooling, support, and more. It will be your responsibility to support and participate in these activities. Primarily in advocating for design and engineering best practices.

What we would like you to bring

  • Experience driving projects from initiation to delivery, defining the business value gained with the program and utilising this with stakeholders for buy-in.
  • At least 4 years of experience in producing technical documentation in the corporate and financial markets space.
  • Experience with APIs and open banking would be desirable
  • Education equivalent to a BS in library/information science, human/computer interaction, web development, computer science, graphic arts/digital design, psychology, business, or other equivalent discipline.
  • You have an understanding of psychology and behavioural science.
  • Knowledge of customer centred design principles and usability testing methods.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise project methodology and capable of working with IT to manage business and technical requirements for documentation
  • You also understand global diversity and the ability to advise on solutions that suit all.
  • You have the ability and desire to keep challenging yourself and others with entrepreneurial attitude and passion for observing human behaviour, identifying team biases and surfacing these with grit.
  • You work smart, are flexible and skilled in establishing practical processes.
  • Familiarity with Information architecture and interaction design
  • Good experience in all facets of technical writing as outlined in the Key Responsibilities
  • Experience in Agile and/or LEAN projects
  • Good stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated success presenting content strategy and solutions in a clear and compelling manner to cross-functional stakeholders that persuades action.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 4+ years of experience in producing technical documentation in the corporate and financial markets space
  • Experience with APIs and open banking would be desirable
  • Education equivalent to a BS in library/information science, human/computer interaction, web development, computer science, graphic arts/digital design, psychology, business, or other equivalent discipline
  • You have an understanding of psychology and behavioural science
  • Good stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully integrate technical documentation activities within an Agile development framework
  • IC Agile or SCRUM certification would be desirable
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
  • You love to take ownership, see your projects through to launch and keep an eye on them afterwards, always on the lookout for improvement

Role Specific Technical Competencies

  • Strong influencing and communication skills – oral, written and presentation
  • Strong understanding of visual elements (Layout, Type, Fonts…)
  • Knowledge of APIs and Open Banking
  • Ability to deliver high quality technical documentation paying attention to detail
  • Ability to generate technical documentation that is understandable by its target audience
