The incumbent will be responsible for the management of physical fertilizer trading, including Nitrogen, Phosphate, Potassium based and other mineral fertilizers.
The incumbent will also be responsible for the creation and maintenance of business plan for the fertilizer trading team. Working with internal and external teams to ensure the objectives of the fertilizer team is aligned with the organization’s goals. Coordination with Mitsubishi Corporation Mineral Resources Investments (MRI) team in Tokyo to align on strategy and reporting for investments, as well as working with Mitsubishi Agri Service Corporation (MAC) to develop a working business in Japan.Management of team budget update and day-to-day management of the fertilizer team.
This position will report to the General Manager, Corporate Development.
Responsibilities
1. Fertilizer Trading (30%)
- Engage in mineral fertilizer trading including but not limited to Nitrogen, Phosphates and Potash based fertilizers.
- Collaborate with other functional teams such as trade operations, freight, legal, middle office, etc
2. Business Development (30%)
- Assess, identify, and develop businesses with new suppliers, counterparties, and new business models such as structured trades, and new entity establishments.
3. Budget and Reporting (10%)
- Develops business strategies and plans budgets for the division.
- Collaborates with colleagues from MRI team to align overall group directions with RtM teams globally.
- Prepare and submit reports requested by MRI team in Japanese.
4. Strategy and Planning (10%)
- Develop business plan for fertilizer trading, working with MRI team, MAC, and external consultants
5. Risk Management (10%)
- Monitors counterparties’ performance, mitigates risks and manages the book’s exposure to relevant counterparties and regions.
- Ensures division’s exposure is at a manageable level.
6. Market Intelligence (10%)
- Establishes networks and builds good reports with industry players.
- Consolidate market research and reports to the global teams where relevant.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- 10 years of working experience in physical and/or futures commodities trading with minimum 2 years’ experience in bulk commodities trading
- Possess a recognized degree in business financial studies or other relevant specializations
- Business proficiency in spoken and written English and Japanese. Japanese proficiency is required as the communication with MRI, MAC and reports preparation will primarily be in Japanese.
