About the Role
As a business correspondent, you will develop, report, write and produce content on a wide range of topics, especially those related to banking, financial technology (fintech), payments and personal finance, for The Straits Times and all its news platforms.
You are required to present your articles in an organised and interesting way to engage and inform our readers. In addition to cultivating strong contacts and networks, you need to be able to spot and analyse trends as well as look for exclusive stories.
You will be required to interview newsmakers, attend press conferences and cover major events to produce newsworthy stories appearing in print and online. Your work may additionally take the form of digital content such as videos, interactive graphics, podcasts and other visual storytelling formats.
You will also have an opportunity to contribute to HeadSTart, which includes engaging younger audiences through newsletters, social media videos and event outreach campaigns; as well as Invest, which focuses on how one can better manage their money.
Job Requirements:
- Degree from a recognised university with at least 5 years of relevant experience in journalism and/or content creation
- Excellent command of English and strong writing skills. Conversational fluency in a mother tongue or second language is a plus point
- Background or an interest in banking, payments, financial technology (fintech) and personal finance. Some knowledge of regulations in the finance industry will be advantageous
- Ability to conduct interviews and seek out relevant newsmakers, including people on the ground
- Ability to contribute news analyses, commentaries or in-depth features on hot-button issues
- Enthusiasm, independence, resourcefulness and the ability to work under pressure
- Good news sense with a good understanding of online and mobile readership and surfing patterns
- Adaptable and able to work both independently as well as in a team
- Willingness to be rostered on weekends and/or public holiday
