Job Purpose Statement
Responsible for the collection, handling and processing of blood specimens from adult, pediatrics and/ or infant patients as ordered by the Clinicians; assist in projects, operations and client service duties in the operations department.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the timely and accurate collection of blood specimens from patients as requested by the clinicians using any of the appropriate techniques - Venipuncture; Capillary collection (fingerstick or heelstick); Blood culture specimen collection.
- Perform venipuncture on patients (up to maximum 2 attempts).
- Perform phlebotomy procedures using proper, sterile and safe techniques.
- Troubleshoot problems and make recommendations.
- Manage phlebotomy consumable items inventory.
- Sort and record all blood specimens collected.
- Ensure sample collected from correct patient using correct tube type.
- Ensure specimen tube and form are correctly labelled.
- Ensure specimens are dispatched to the laboratory in a timely manner.
- Acquire knowledge and skills on Laboratory Information System and required IT systems.
- Accountable for daily operations and other related matters.
- Rotate duties between medical centers as determined by supervisor.
- Work with colleagues to achieve accuracy, service quality, quick Turn Around Time and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain tidiness of workplace.
- Assist in projects, operations and client service duties as and when needed.
- Any other duties as assigned from time to time by management.
Requirements
- Minimum GCE āNā Level, State Enrolled Nurse, equivalent or higher nursing qualifications, or Medical Technology degree / diploma with Phlebotomist certificate.
- 3 years' experience in Phlebotomy via vaccutainer or syringe and needle venepuncture.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Patient/customer service orientated.
