We are looking for a full-time research assistant to support an MOE-funded research project on cancer and public health. The successful candidate will work closely with the principal investigator and a team of cancer clinicians and researchers, and will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in socio-behavioural research to improve cancer care.

Responsibilities:

A full-time Research Assistant position in the team led by Assistant Professor Chua Wei Ling is available at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, National University of Singapore. The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Fellow position in Professor Brian Kennedy’s lab, part of the Department of Biochemistry and the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The lab focuses on basic, clinical and transformative research to add healthy year of life by developing interventions to delay ageing and chronic disease onset, increase healthspan and improve life quality. Appointments will be on a 1-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The Research Fellow (RF) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and team members to investigate the effects of repurposing drugs and natural products influencing healthspan and lifespan in mice and biological clocks of ageing, work on ageing and system biology to unravel the ageing networks. The RF’s principal role will be to work on modelling, simulating, and analyzing biological processes related to ageing biology.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Fellow will liaise with the relevant personnel in the department to smooth the process of modelling, simulating, and analyzing biological data and will be accountable to the Principal Investigator (PI). The RF will be able to:

1. Conduct innovative research at the intersection of AI, complex systems science, and dynamical systems related to aging. This involves formulating hypotheses, designing experiments, and analyzing data using advanced computational methods;
2. Develop and implement computational models to simulate biological aging processes. This includes using techniques from physics to model complex biological systems and employing AI to predict outcomes;
3. Utilize bioinformatics tools to analyze large datasets, such as lipidomic and epigenetic data, to uncover patterns related to aging and age-related diseases;

The research is on transforming food waste into digestates containing active biomolecules to enhance vegetable growth. Utilizing anaerobic digestion, we aim to recover essential nutrients such as N, P and K from food waste and integrate them into waste-derived hydrogel/biochar for optimal vegetable cultivation, thereby closing the waste loop in farming practices.

The specific aims are:

1. To release nutrients from food waste through anaerobic digestion and optimize the co-digestion process with waste-derived hydrogels.

Job Description

The research group of Assistant Professor Ho Wen Wei (Presidential Young Professor) at the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, NUS, and Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT), is seeking a Senior Research Fellow to work on theoretical aspects of nonequilibrium quantum many-body physics and quantum information science.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

- Developing theoretical methods to predict and characterize nonequilibrium quantum many-body phenomena in synthetic quantum matter (cold atoms, Rydberg atoms, trapped ions,etc.), utilizing the lens of quantum information theory (e.g., entanglement, tensor networks). Specific topics include deep thermalization, measurement-induced randomness, measurement-induced entanglement phases, dynamical/driven phases of matter, quantum many-body scars etc.

- Developing quantum information science applications like quantum simulation of complex many-body phenomena, and quantum state preparation and tomography protocols, specifically tailored for current and near-term quantum technologies etc. Analytical calculations and numerical methods will be employed to ascertain the validity and performance of the proposed applications.

There will be opportunities to collaborate with world renowned experimental groups of cold atoms, superconducting circuits and Rydberg atoms, including those at the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore, located next door.

Qualifications

• Qualifications / Discipline: PhD in Physics or closely-related field.

• Skills: Candidates should be familiar with quantum many-body theory and quantum-information theoretic tools to analyse them, like entanglement and tensor networks etc. Previous experience with experiments involving quantum simulators is a plus, and expertise in computational methods (exact diagonalization, DMRG, Monte Carlo) is also highly desirable.

• Experience: Candidates should expect to have a PhD at the start of appointment and have published a number of papers relevant to the field of research, in reputable journals.
