We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow with expertise in immunology. Our team aims to leverage on stem cell biology (Sagi, Chia et al., Nature 2016; Chia et al., Nature Cell Biology 2019; Chia et al., Nature Cell Biology 2017) and cell engineering to develop alternative immunotherapeutic strategies to target refractory cancer types. The candidate will work closely with clinicians to establish empirical platforms for identifying and validating cancer vaccine candidates, and to translate research findings into clinical practice.

Also, the candidate will be involved in the assessment and development of vaccines against novel antigens for the treatment of cancer and other human diseases. We are recruiting 2 researchers to work on a major research project on building trust and digital resilience:

We are seeking applications for two full-time postdoctoral researcher/research fellow positions to work on building a theoretical framework to examine factors that affect public trust in digitalization, alongside trust in government and public institutions to manage associated risks. Through multi-city large scale surveys and online experiments, the study seeks to understand public attitudes towards technology, the digital information pipeline, and the role of government. This research will contribute to policy design and the implementation of digital technologies in a way that is sensitive to public concerns and expectations.

The two positions are available from Q3 2024 (reasonably earlier or later start date is negotiable) for 3 years each. The researchers are expected to have significant experience in designing and conducting survey research with a focus on digital technologies, platforms, AI, public trust, or other closely related areas. The project using a policy design lens will contribute to the literature on building trust in digitalization through mixed-method research in multiple phases. The project will conceptualise trust in digital information and examining factors such as trust in technology and trust in government.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that aim to develop state-of-the-art AI to create future smart cities. The Postdoctoral Associate is in the T7 project for the five-year M3S program in SMART. The SMART team seeks to advance the frontier of AI research, apply it to society and cities, and demonstrate the concrete social impacts of the AI algorithms with broad public acceptance in Singapore.

Specifically, the SMART-T7 project concerns the design of human-machine systems for the scheduling and allocation of valuable resources in ways that accommodate and optimize for the needs and capabilities of both humans and machines. The project aims to solve diverse use cases, including the stand allocation processes at Singapore Changi Airport and resource allocation on the Grab platform, as a paradigm for a broad set of other potential application contexts.

The problem of scheduling and allocating valuable resources appears in numerous contexts (e.g., transportation, health, public services, logistics) and scales. Many of these contexts share a set of common features. First, decisions regarding scheduling and resource allocation must be made in the face of uncertainty about the amount and timing of demand for these resources. This, in turn, means that plans must be updated dynamically as new information comes in. Moreover, a variety of stakeholders are typically involved and contend for the limited available resources, so that decision-makers must look for compromise solutions that “optimize”, in some way, the use of the resources, while balancing, to the extent possible, the requirements, priorities and social, economic, or demographic characteristics of these stakeholders. In short, these are complex problems involve multiple agents making multi-attribute decisions in a dynamic environment in the presence of uncertainty. Increasingly, AI- and ML-based tools are being brought by large organizations to bear on these problems and complement the expertise and experience of human managers and operators and the traditional decision-making support offered by more traditional (often large-scale) optimization models and algorithms.
