Position Summary/Overview:

• The Data Center Operation technician has overall responsibility to support the troubleshooting and coordinating activities pertaining to the day-to-day support of the data centers and critical facilities. responsible for troubleshooting, managing the vendors/contractors and report to the Data Center Operation Site Lead.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of contractors or vendors and support in the daily data centre operations
• Perform data centre operations and inspections including monitoring and management for infrastructure systems, DC environment and facilities
• Monitor critical facilities and infrastructure system alerts and perform necessary escalation
• Perform incident management and escalation pertaining to any facilities and system downtime
• Manage and administer the service desk operations
• Ensure the implementation of safe systems on site activities.
• Liaison with BUs in regard to utilities, building services / facilities and systems issues
• Assist in the planning and execution of disaster recovery activities
• Administer and ensure building records, licenses, permit and etc are properly documented.
• Ensure procedures, processes and service level are being followed for any service delivery and operations
• Periodic review of the data centre operations and report any gaps and issues
• Prepare and update of Data Centre and Service Desk monthly report
• Maintain the site asset database, provide updates in accordance with CMMS requirements.

Education & Experience:

• Possess a Diploma in Computer Science or equivalent
• Possess Data Centre Certifications such as Certified Data Centre Professional
• Possess at least 3 years’ experience in Data Centre Operations, Facilities Monitoring & Management
• Familiar with Data Centre facilities including Computer Room Air-Con (CRAC), fire suppression system, water detection system, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) and etc
• Familiar with Service Desk operations and incident management process
• Basic understanding on the operation of MEP systems
• Resourceful, analytical and problem solving skill
• Good communications and interpersonal skills

• Perform physical and technical tasks of intermediate & escalated complexity on Data Center infrastructure equipment including but not limited to servers infrastructure, network infrastructure, or other equipment on the DC floor, without immediate supervision.

• Work alongside Technicians in installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining servers, networking equipment, and cabling (requires moving and racking equipment)

• Fix broken servers (replace hard drives, replace bad sticks of RAM, etc.).

• Use hardware/software tools and workflows (automation) in support of these tasks.

• Strictly follow all policies, processes, and procedures related to the activities and data center environment.

• Perform maintenance on a timely basis with adequate recordkeeping.

• Maintain equipment in running order with minimal downtime.

• Ensure a safe working environment and perform maintenance in a safe manner.

Requirements

• NITEC in IT or technical based qualifications.

• Familiar and comfortable using and working with IT equipment and software.

• Experience in repair of electronics components of computers.

• Scissor lift license would be an added advantage.

Job Description:

•  Supporting deployment of on-site data centre physical infrastructure.
•  Installing, replacing and troubleshooting Cables and Hardware.
•  Handling data bearing devices (ex. hard drives, solid-state drives, etc.)
•  Working within a ticket-based environment.
•  Movement of equipment using pallet jacks or other assisted lifting equipment.
•  As required, assisting the Datacentre Inventory and Asset Management Team (DIAT) with shipping/receiving and inventory management to address high work volumes.
•  Flexibility to work non-standard business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays.

Skill sets:

•  Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
•  Six (6) months or more handling/maintaining any technical equipment or machinery.
•  1+ years’ experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
•  Applicable certifications: CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
•  Ability to support frequent standing, walking, lifting, and working at heights with or without equipment assistance.
•  Able to communicate effectively.
•  Proficient in written and oral English communication to support regional and global teams.
•  Desire to learn, grow, and develop new technical skills.

Must be comfortable with rotational shift (Afternoon 8 Hours & Night 10 Hours on Monthly basis)

A Data Center Technician is the technical liaison between the technology teams, customer and the 24x7 Data Center Environment. As a data center technician, you will be responsible for providing on-site data center escalation support for mission-critical equipment. You can provision and troubleshoot a range of data center infrastructure components including, but not limited to hardware, fiber, networking, servers, NAS, and related equipment. You are efficient at collaborating and troubleshooting complex technical issues through Chat, Phone, and Email. You know how to innovate and make decisions on your own, but also know how to take direction when it is given, paying attention to all details involved. Expected to improve current processes and introduce automation with aim towards simplification.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must have demonstrated expertise in enterprise hardware installation, troubleshooting and repair in two or more of these areas:

• Directly support and complete all scheduled data center MACs (Moves/Adds/Changes) for all tickets, emails & chats.
• Hardware installation, including device labeling, power connectivity and network cable connectivity.
• Complete hardware support work orders involving hardware, cabling, troubleshooting and break-fix.
• Provide smart-hands assistance as required for customers within specified SLA response times.
• Maintain a safe and secure operating environment within the data center and report any violations to their immediate supervisor.
• Detailed and thorough documentation and record keeping.
• working knowledge with server and network hardware/components.
• Data center productivity and support tools, applications, and software including but not limited to (Windows, Linux, SSH, RDP, Putty, KVM, IPMI, Terminal, etc.)
• Provide vendor and client escorts as needed.
• Provide general cleaning on raised floor, cabinet/rack exterior surfaces, work benches and other areas as needed on a regular basis.
• Provide status reporting regarding Data Center service availability, performance, capacity utilization as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must be self-motivated, detail oriented, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop, and implement project process improvement(s).
• General knowledge of server/network equipment and software support configurations.
• Basic understanding of data center power distribution and data center best practices.
• Must possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to see tasks through to completion.
• Must be able to work from a ladder, in confined spaces
• Ability to sit, stand, kneel or squat for long periods of time.
• Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as server tones.
• Regular attendance is mandatory.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency.
• Two (2) years’ minimum of data center experience.
