Job Title: Project Cost Accountant

Location: Central Singapore

We’re looking for a meticulous and experienced Project Cost Accountant to join our team and support our expanding project portfolio.

Job Description:

• Budgeting & Financial Planning: Develop, monitor, and maintain project budgets for various design and architecture projects, ensuring alignment with project scope and objectives.
• Cost Tracking & Analysis: Track project costs, including materials, labor, and subcontractor expenses, and analyze variances. Prepare reports to ensure project costs align with budget projections.
• Invoicing & Payments: Review and approve project-related invoices for accuracy and compliance, managing payment timelines for suppliers and subcontractors.
• Financial Reporting & Forecasting: Generate regular financial reports, including cost forecasts and project expenditure summaries, to inform project managers and stakeholders.
• Project Reconciliations & Compliance: Reconcile project accounts with the general ledger and ensure compliance with internal financial controls.
• Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, designers, and procurement teams to align financials with project progress, providing insights to support decision-making.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in project cost accounting, ideally within architecture, interior design, or construction industries.
• Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

This is dynamic business partner role supporting the project leaders on project financials and performance. You will work closely with the project teams on project related matters and the GL team during month end close to ensure accurate recording of costs and revenue. You will take the lead on budget preparation for projects under your charge and assist with audit queries during the year end audit. The role has a high visibility to Management and opportunity to drive process improvements.

Responsibilities:

1. Undertake take role of Business Partner of an assigned business unit and work closely with the respective business units on their accounting and reporting requirements.

2. Review contracts, understand key terms and conditions, fee basis, billing milestones and billing mechanisms. Actively drive WIP, AR management, ensuring timely billings and collections as projects progress for projects assigned.

3. Ensure project account setup on accounting system is adequately structured for cost monitoring, billing and collection purposes.

4. Review on a monthly basis, project cost charges and investigate variances. Prepare accrual lists for accrual of project costs.

5. Prepare monthly project reports and engage project leaders on project progress, performance and KPI discussions. Represent projects at financial meetings and present analysis.

6. Support projects on preparation of budgets, rolling forecasts, cost projections and keeping costs up to date. Monitor risk and opportunities and quantify costs and revenue impact.

7. Strong understanding of project accounting, costs to complete projections, revenue recognition.

8. Participate in semi-annual budget exercise, work closely with project teams on budget preparation, and support project teams on presentation of project financials.

9. Assist with the monthly preparation of Division reports and identify areas for improvement, digitalization.

Requirement:

• Degree in Accountancy or ACCA with at least 5 years in project accounting or project finance related role in service related organization or construction industry.
• Meticulous, and able to manage multi stakeholders
• Good understanding of FRS 115
• Advanced EXCEL user with good financial modelling experience
• Prior working knowledge of ORACLE/Hyperion advantageous
• Keen interest in dashboards and RPA
• Strong presentation skills
• Candidates with stronger skills and experience may be considered for an Assistant Manager position.

• Overseeing the company's project performance, which includes achieving operational KPIs and collaborating with internal Project Managers.
• Compiling quarterly reports for periodic review and effectively communicating outcomes and status to various stakeholders.
• Playing a pivotal role in monitoring, analyzing, and projecting project costs for both the project team and management.
• Actively participating in budgeting and forecasting procedures, overseeing project forecasts and actual figures, and addressing monthly variances.
• Coordinating with external auditors for statutory and interim audits.
• Offering insights into project Work in Progress (WIP), collections, risks, opportunities, and cash flow.
• Engaging in the continuous improvement of project management and reporting processes through reviews and recommendations.
• Presenting updated financial data and actively participating in project management meetings to assess cost status.
• Reviewing and providing accurate responses to project payment inquiries and invoices for processing.
• Undertaking any necessary ad-hoc responsibilities as they arise.

Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in Accountancy, ACCA, or a similar recognized professional qualification is required.
• Candidates should have at least 4 years of relevant experience, with a preference for prior exposure to accounting for construction contracts.
