The EOS/ASE Coastal Laboratory at NTU is searching for a Research Associate to work under the supervision of Prof Adam Switzer on extreme sea level analysis (ExSL). The successful candidate will analyse an integrated data set and conduct numerical modelling to estimate ExSL events in Singapore. Further to this, they will work on a review of current floating GNSS systems and current measurement techniques. They will also investigate best practices for communicating ExSL potential future impacts in Singapore. The successful candidate will have a Masters’ degree in Earth Science, natural hazards, remote sensing, geodesy, computer science, data science, or a related subject. Most importantly they will have enthusiasm to engage in the research work of our group, and a passion for making Southeast Asia a safer and more sustainable place for all communities in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret extreme sea level (ExSL) data from regional tide gauge networks.
- Conduct numerical modeling of ExSL, including to use numerical modeling techniques to model future events.
- Conduct a review of floating buoy systems for monitoring ExSL events.
- Conduct studies into best practices for communication of results on ExSL to policymakers and other key stakeholders, including discussion with these groups to learn their needs.
Job Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Earth or environmental science.
- At least 4 years of experience working in an Earth science field.
- Demonstrated experience in geodetic data analysis and numerical modelling of tectonic deformation.
- Demonstrated experience conducting scientific research.
- Evidence of papers submitted or accepted into peer-reviewed journals would be a plus.
- Collaborative mindset and strong teamwork skills.
