Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant/Research Associate (RA) will be involved in an ethnographic and historical study that investigates the urban heat experiences and practices of Singapore households. The successful candidate will have expertise in polymer synthesis, specifically in the synthesis, modification, and characterization of water-soluble polythiophenes. The primary objective of this position is to develop a fluorescence-based assay by utilizing either polythiophenes or polythiophene-peptide hybrids as the reporter molecules. A strong background in polymer chemistry, as well as experience in UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and execute experiments: The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing experiments to synthesize novel polythiophenes with a focus on optimizing their optical properties for fluorescence-based sensing applications.
• Biophysical characterization: Employ advanced biophysical characterization techniques to analyze and investigate the properties of the synthesized polymers.
• Development of fluorescence-based assay: Develop and validate a fluorescence-based assay utilizing polythiophenes as sensing elements. This will involve optimizing the assay conditions, evaluating its sensitivity, selectivity, and reproducibility, and exploring potential applications.

SCELSE is seeking a research fellow with established field techniques, ability to use molecular protocols for DNA and RNA isolation from marine bacteria and seagrasses for molecular community analysis, genome sequencing and metagenomics. The candidate should be a talented marine microbiologist with experience working with marine microbes and field experience.
