Position: Science Laboratory Support Personnel

Location: Ang Mo Kio Primary School, 20 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, Singapore 569920

Objective:The Science Laboratory Support Personnel, deployed by the Contractor, will contribute to the effective functioning of Ang Mo Kio Primary School's Science Laboratory. The primary objective is to provide comprehensive support to teachers, ensuring a conducive environment for science experiments and related activities.

Duration of Service:

• Base Period: 1 Mar 2024 to 29 Feb 2025Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays: 7 am to 2 pm
  Thursdays: 7 am to 4 pm
  
• Option Period: 1 Mar 2025 to 28 Feb 2026 (same schedule as the base period)

Responsibilities:

1. Prepare Science Laboratory Resources:

• Organize and prepare science resources for teachers conducting experiments.
• Actively assist teachers during science laboratory lessons, adhering to the stipulated timetable.
• Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the science laboratory after experiments.
• Manage and maintain an inventory of science laboratory resources.

2. Support Learning Trails and Activities at Eco-Garden:

• Collaborate with teachers to facilitate learning activities such as eco-trails, hydroponics, and farmbot activities.
• Assist in the preparation of teaching aids for use in the eco-garden.

3. Provide Simple Admin / Resource / IT Support:

• Manage the tracking of loaned items in the science laboratory.
• Assist in administrative tasks, including printing, collating, laminating, and organizing materials.
• Receive deliveries from MOE HQ, vendors, and agencies; distribute to the relevant areas.
• Provide basic IT support, including setting up projectors and iPad carts for teachers.
• Conduct stock take twice a year.
• Assist in the issuance and collection of desk copies and teaching aids.

4. Additional Information:

• The school operates in a Single-Session setting from 7.30 am – 1.30 pm daily.
• Personnel may be required to assist in administrative work during school term breaks (Mar, June, Sept, and Dec term breaks) based on school needs.

Qualification, Skill & Experience:

• Education: Minimum of secondary qualifications, at least GCE N levels (relevant work experience considered).
• Experience: Preferably worked as a science laboratory assistant in a primary school environment.
• Resourcefulness in preparing learning aids, contributing to cost savings.
• Experience with plants or involvement in planting/greening activities.

The PI position will lead research on Human Sensory perception, Consumer preference and Food intake behaviour within SIFBI as it relates to nutrition, health and new product innovation. The Sensory group interacts closely with the other technology pillars1 at SIFBI to provide support to new product development, ingredient and processing innovation and the impact of sustainable technology solutions to consumer acceptability, nutrition and well-being.

The candidate will lead a team of Sensory and Nutrition researchers based at the Clinical Nutrition Research Center, and will contribute to SIFBI’s overall corporate strategy. The appointee will develop strategic programs of research to ensure competitive and industry-relevant Sensory research activities are supported with sustained funding, and will integrate sensory, consumer and ingestive behaviour measures, interact with the taste receptor platform in order to integrate the SIFBI portfolio across the value chain, nurturing close collaboration with researchers within and beyond SIFBI, and the wider A*STAR family. Job Responsibilities:

The level of responsibility will be dependent on the candidate’s experience, and the primary responsibilities include the following:

• Provide expert scientific leadership in formulating a strategic focus for research in sensory science and consumer behaviour relevant to SIFBI’s industrial and competitive research grant funding, and aligned with national research priorities.
• Develop research that integrates sensory perceptual measures, taste receptor platform into ongoing research in food science, processing, food structure, nutrition and fermentation.

• Extensive experience with planning and executing studies to better understand the role of food roperties, sensory characteristics and psychological factors that influence food choice and intake.
• Lead with expertise on eating behaviour methods and the design and execution of research studies to understand food intake. Critically analyze, interpret and draw conclusions from scientific studies in the field of human nutrition and food intake behaviour.
• Coach and develop junior staff in the appropriate scientific and statistical methodologies and in the interpretation of data. Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting.

The Senior Laboratory Information System Officer supports the laboratory management team to implement organisational and departmental policies, and oversee the total test process (pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical).

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific

i. Have a good operating knowledge of laboratory information system, equipment software, and other software used in laboratory.

ii. Optimise information systems to support laboratory team to meet performance indicators.

iii. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the laboratory information system (LIS), including test reconciliation from various interfaces.

iv. Provide support to all laboratory sections to meet the expected turn-around-time including technical help during IT breakdown and downtime.

v. Ensure that personnel comply with policies, work instructions and guidelines, and work with Head of Clinical Laboratory and reporting officers on disciplinary measures.

vi. Ensure that all incidents regarding IT system are reported, assist in investigation of incidents, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

vii. Maintain laboratory intranet website, dashboard, and in-house development software or applications in good working condition.

viii. Provide training, competency assessment, and supervision of medical laboratory technologists and medical officers (where applicable).

ix. Write and review documents, including policies, work instructions, bench guides and forms.

x. Identify and trouble-shoot major issues, and make decisions on whether escalation to Head of Clinical Laboratory and Head of Service is required.

General

i. Perform duties in a professional manner, commensurate with academic and technical skills and training.

ii. Adhere to laws, regulations, and hospital procedures and policies.

iii. Uphold the visions and practices of Woodlands Health.

iv. Fulfil continuing medical education requirements.

v. Participate in quality improvement programmes.

vi. Perform any other duties as directed by the Head of Clinical Laboratory.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education, training and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
• Minimum of four years of working in a clinical laboratory, including leadership or supervisory positions
• Familiar with SQL scripting, data extraction with Oracle database
• Experience in writing and implementing policies and work instructions
• Experience in Ministry of Health licensing, and CAP, ISO or JCI accreditation processes
• ASCPi certificate is preferred
