We are seeking an experienced, self-driven and committed Principal/Senior Research Officer to conduct research and surveillance of arboviruses and other pathogenic viruses at the Environmental Health Institute.
The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary environment, where his/her research is translated into evidence-based public health programmes and policies. The candidate will lead/ conduct studies that will contribute to the risk assessment of arboviruses and/or environmentally transmitted viruses. These studies may include virus culture and characterization, seroepidemiological studies using various immunoassays, among others. He/she will be involved in experimental design, research execution, data analysis and reporting, and will be expected to publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
The candidate will have opportunities for personal development in areas such as leadership, management and communication. There will also be opportunities to work with the industry and international and local scientific experts.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with 5 years relevant experience; Masters or PhD degree in Virology, Immunology, Cell Biology or related disciplines.
- Preferably at least three years of working experience and proficiency in core areas relevant to virology, such as virus isolation, mammalian cell culture, immunology and serology.
- Willing and physically fit to work in a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) environment. Prior working experience in BSL3 facility is preferred.
- Able to lead, design and conduct research projects independently.
- Able to multi-task and with good organisational skills.
- Able to work well in a team, as well as independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Willing to work after office hours and/or weekends when necessary.
