We are looking for a wet-lab Research Assistant, who has experience in working with mice models and performing molecular and cellular experiments to study cardio/pulmonary/kidney and immune-fibrotic traits, with the aim of deciphering the primary genetic factors and regulatory networks underlying cardio-metabolic diseases. We are looking for a Research Assistant/Master’s student to quantify vitamins and mycotoxins by LC-MS in foods and related materials and develop improved extraction and analytical methods. Mycotoxins and Microbiota: Determining how the human gut microbiota may increase or decrease the dangers of mycotoxins in food

Aim: To quantify mycotoxins in fecal material and in material from in-vitro fecal fermentations and explore how gut microbiota inter-convert mycotoxins into safer or more dangerous forms. The candidate will also explore how variance in gut microbial communities within the Singapore population impacts mycotoxin metabolism. Overall, this project would lead to better understand the risks posed by different mycotoxins in Singapore. This project would suit someone with existing bio-informatic experience.

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Assistant for the project entitled “Characterisation of C6orf15 as a marker for epithelial mesenchymal transition and lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer” within the Department of Surgery, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Purpose of the post

Main duties and responsibilities

The RA will receive regular direct supervision by the PI. While prior experience working in a laboratory environment would be valuable for this position, this is not critical, as specific molecular biology techniques will be taught by the PI. The RA must however have an interest in the molecular underpinnings of cancer, and have an inquisitive mind and a can-do personality.

The responsibilities of the RA will be to:

1. Oversee the experiments relating to the project;
2. Keep an accurate and contemporaneous log of the experimental procedures attempted as part of the project;
3. Ensure regular upkeep of laboratory stock lists and equipment;
4. Work towards the publication of experimental work in scientific journals;
5. Maintain a safe working environment;
6. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

The PI is willing to teach the applicant molecular biology techniques, and the lack of prior laboratory experience is not a disqualifying criteria for this position. It is however most important for the applicant to have the correct aptitude for the position.

The MNNDL group at NUS studies the human neural bases of cognitive functions and the associated vulnerability patterns in aging and neuropsychiatric disorders using multimodal neuroimaging and psychophysical techniques. We are interested in the large-scale brain structural and functional networks in healthy developing and aging brain and symptoms-related changes in diseases such as neurodegenerative disorders and psychosis. Statistical, computational, and machine learning methods are developed to analyze and fuse multimodal neuroimaging data. By integrating longitudinal behavior, neuroimaging, and genotype data, our long-term goal is to investigate the interactions among brain network dynamics, behavior, diseases, and genotypes to develop non-invasive biomarkers for early detection, differential diagnosis, progression monitoring, and treatment design.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with, the Principal Investigator, lab members, and collaborators to ensure smooth operation of computing servers/storage, efficient database management, and successful completion of research projects in the lab.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The research assistant will support the effort in conducting cutting-edge neuroscience and machine learning research and development. He/she has the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art neuroimaging techniques, data collection and analysis, with healthy participants and patients with neuropsychiatric diseases. He/she will be primarily engaged in computing server and storage administration (with support from external vendors), website maintenance, and neuroimage processing using automatic or semi-automatic scripts, and general IT management. He/she will also be able to learn how to conduct fMRI scans with EEG recording, interactions with patients, quality control, behavioural assessments, and implications in neuroscience and disease. The research assistant is expected to learn neuroimaging software and assist researchers in IRB application, data preprocessing and database management in various research projects. He/she will be exposed to ongoing research work in machine learning and statistical analysis in the context of neuroimaging and cognitive neuroscience. The research assistant/associate will have the opportunity to liaise and work with other collaborators across the institutes/hospitals in Singapore on research projects and contribute to the presentations and publications of research work. Singapore is looking for ways to reduce waste and improve food security. Both are accomplished by recycling food waste with black soldier flies (BSFs). By feeding on food waste, fly larvae convert organic matter into compost fertilizer which can be used for high-tech vegetable farming, and into protein-rich feed for fish, chicken and other livestock.

We are currently seeking a motivated and dedicated lab technologist or research assistant to join our team. You will work with other research assistants to oversee the day-to-day operations of the BSF rearing facility and assist researchers and students with their projects. Applicants should be enthusiastic about environmental causes and food security, be comfortable handling insects and food waste, and be comfortable confronting and solving challenges independently.

This position involves working with fresh food waste/scraps, insect larvae and adult flies daily. On-the-job training is provided. Alongside your colleagues, you will be tasked with the following:

● Collecting and preparing food waste for the larvae
● Maintenance of insect cages and breeding facilities
● Overseeing the fly cultures
● Assisting researchers and students with experiments
● Other tasks assigned.
