The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) invite applications for the position of Research Associate. The Research Associate will join a new project administered by the Public Utilities Board (PUB) collecting data from the Singapore Strait to better prepare Singapore’s water security (i.e., desalination) in the face of future climate change. This is an international, multi-institutional and trans-disciplinary program involving top researchers from the local and international community that aims to understand past, present and future climate change impacts on our water resources, as well as to source for alternative water sources (e.g., subsurface aquifers).

The work will involve active offshore collection and preparation of water samples for lab analysis, and measuring water parameters (e.g., temperature, pH, current speed) around Singapore on a research vessel. You will also be involved in other aspects of the field surveys and sediment analysis where you will be trained in a variety of state-of-the-art lab techniques (i.e., laser-diffraction, particle-size analysis, XRF-scanning, TOC measurements). Active participation in research will be encouraged, and support for publication and meeting/conference presentations, both local and international, can be available.

Job Responsibilities

• Water collection (using Niskin bottle) and measuring water parameters (e.g., pH, salinity, temperature) using instrumental sensors onboard a research vessel
• Preparation of water samples for geochemical lab analysis
• Perform basic sediment analysis on offshore sediment samples
• Assist in the preparation and writing of progress reports and academic papers
• Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research with the support of and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator

Job Requirements

• Master’s degree in geochemistry or environmental sciences or similar fields
• Experience with sampling/water collection on board research boats and vessels
• Able to swim, as this will be essential when working in the field
• Ability to work independently and possess strong follow-through skills
• A team player in a project setting, also with ability to work independently in a multi-cultural team environment
• Demonstrated good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Manage day to day customer service and operations support.
• Handle new and existing customer enquiries.
• Prepare quotation, purchase order, delivery order and etc.
• Order processing for ISO tank parts and accessories (include coordination with warehouse for pick and pack).
• Handle and prepare shipping of sales order, including exporting of shipment through courier services or freight agents
• Other ad hoc duties and initiatives assigned

Requirements:

• Minimum ITE or GCE “O” levels
• Must have shipping experience
• With SAP and spare parts accessories will be an added advantage
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Able to work independently and willing to learn
• Good organization skills, focused and detailed mindset toward work excellence
• Positive attitude and able to perform under pressure
• Able to start work immediately or within short notice preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Drive customer issue resolution activities following the claims management process, i.e. root cause analysis, containment, corrective action, and factory process / quality controls improvements to prevent recurrence of problems and efficacies of detection.
• Process field claims in a timely manner for resolution.
• Work with regional Technical Product Managers to resolve field claims. This includes performing failure analysis and field visits to customer sites/installation.
• Providing timely engineering insights including failure analysis technical reports and presentation.
• Analyze product warranty claim and provide modeling on product service life.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams, contributing to the domain of product FA or characterization.
• Handles customer visits and factory audits and product inspection.
• Develop & contribute to building knowledge base of degradation from product to material level.
• Design tests to detect infant mortality and mid-life product failures.
• Perform investigation including product reliability data analysis, and modeling product performance behavior to identify opportunities in future development or continuous improvements for current technology.

• Bach / Masters / Phd Degree in Engineering or Science (Electrical, Mechanical, Physical Sciences)

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Problem-solving, failure analysis and trouble-shooting, statistical data analysis and design of experiment
• Application experience in managing (large) data modelling would be favorable
• Excellent practical knowledge and use of Microsoft Office
• Excellent interpersonal skills, strong belief in driving for quality and customer satisfaction.
• Ability to interface and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams as well as external stake holders and external auditors.
• Communicate effectively through presentation and technical reports.
• Enjoys rigors of technical reviews with peers & management to drive to business outcome.
