The eVTOL Research and Innovation Centre at School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, is looking for a strong candidate as Senior Research Engineer I in the area of Airframe or Structure Design.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the conceptualization and detailed design of composite structures for eVTOL, ensuring they meet performance, weight, and manufacturability requirements.
• Develop 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CAD software, ensuring precision and compliance with industry standards.
• Utilize advanced engineering principles and tools to optimize composite structures for strength, stiffness, and durability.
• Conduct material testing, sub-component testing and load proof testing to validate performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with aerodynamicists, stress analysts, and other stakeholders to integrate composite structures seamlessly into overall system designs.
• Define and specify load cases, load distributions, and factors of safety for composite structures.
• Define and optimize laminate stacking sequences to achieve desired mechanical properties.
• Select appropriate layup techniques and manufacturing processes for composite components.
• Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure feasibility and efficiency in the production of composite structures.
• Focus on weight reduction strategies while maintaining structural integrity and performance.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate design concepts and progress to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's or master’s degree or Ph.D in aerospace engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5 years of experience in composite structure design and analysis.
• Strong knowledge of composite materials, manufacturing processes, and industry best practices.
• Experience with CAD design software such as Solidworks, NX or CATIA
• Experience with aerospace or automotive composite structures is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Fluent English skill is a must.

Engineer II will be the mechanical team member in an assigned project and to assist the mechanical lead in handling and adhering to project timeline. Other responsibilities include:

What will you do?

· Generates/Provides conceptual proposal in supporting mechanical design review.

· Proficient in 3D CAD modeling preferably Pro-Engineer and Solidworks.

· Establish modular design and full product bill of material structure.

· Build and create sub-assembly test plan and report if any.

· Ensuring design fully integrated into mechanical architecture with adaptability to design robustness.

· Provide design improvement if necessary.

· Ability to work with vendors on design for manufacturability and supplier/vendor on cost negotiation in order to achieve product Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).

· Good understanding of design to cost target on mechanical architecture.

· Contribute to technology and innovation into R&D portal.

· Support and assign to technology development if any.

Education & Experience

· Degree/Master in Mechanical Engineering is required.

· Proven experience in product development life cycle.

· Minium 3 years' experience in mechanical design

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Crafting/designing casting, machining, plastics molding and sheet-metal parts with good DFM practices.

· Basic to advance geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.

· Completed at least one product life cycle design.

· Project management

Proficiencies Preferred

· Good knowledge in mechanism design.

· Experience in CFD/FLOW simulation in analyzing flow/thermal characteristic.

· Proficient in mechanical design in medical or life sciences product development in R&D environment.

As a System Engineer, you will be responsible for system engineering design activities required to develop and deliver a solution or product.

Responsibilities:

· Support in leading collaborative discussion to clarify and define system requirements and interface requirements.

· Support to ensure that the proposed architecture and design will meet the requirements.

· Support in producing documentation in support of the project

· Assist in consulting with stakeholders on technical, architectural and procedural issues as required.

· Supports in providing the required technical documentation:

v Design Documents (Preliminary, Final)

v Statement of Works for suppliers and external contractors

v Input/output requirement for Interfaces Management

v Input for specialty engineering: RAMS, EMC/EMI, Cyber-Security.

v Input for Installation Management

v Operation and Maintenance documentation

v Training material

· Participate to progress meetings

· Support in analysis and rectifies the Problem Changes Requests

· Participate in site activities if a need for experts arises

Requirements:

· Tertiary qualification in Electrical, Computer, System Design Engineering or Equivalent

· Systems engineering basics knowledge

· Demonstrated engineering competencies required for qualification to INCOSE CSEP (or equivalent, or ASEP) are highly desirable.

· Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an Engineering role

· Experience working within a Systems Engineering lifecycle

· Experience with Requirements management tools such as DOORS, and modeling tools is desirable.

· Experience with issue tracking tools such as JIRA

· Experience working on Transportation projects

· Membership of relevant professional organisation, e.g. INCOSE, Institution of Engineers Singapore, etc.

• Ensure efficient Civil & Structural and Geotechnical & viaduct design is achieved in accordance with Design Criteria and relevant standards
• Liaise with internal and external parties on all civil & structural and geotechnical & viaduct design matters and advises the Principal Project Manager (PRPM)/ Senior Project Manager (SPM)/Project Manager (PM) regularly
• Co-ordinate the review of Contractor's civil & structural and Geotechnical & Viaduct submission and assists the SPM/PM in conveying a timely response to the contractor
• Identify and resolve potential design related issues during construction phase
• Carry out any other duties as required by the Authority's Project management team, including attending technical meetings and discussions, preparation of minutes of technical meetings and to provide technical meetings and to provide technical support as required in the evaluations of Contractor's claims
• Ensure that the design intent is translated to construction on site by means of correct drawings and specifications
