The Department of English, Linguistics & Theatre Studies at the National University of Singapore invites exceptional candidates to apply for the position of Presidential Young Professor (PYP) at the rank of Assistant Professor, to commence in July 2025. This position is for research-intensive scholars—ABD, or PhD in-hand within past 5 years—who have expertise in one of the two following areas:

Main Responsibilities:

Job Description

This project aims to establish a circa 2020 baseline rice reference map and calibrate it using high-resolution satellite imagery or commercial satellite imagery, producing a detailed accuracy assessment report of the rice paddy map over targeted regions.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Visual interpretation of high-resolution satellite imageries and create training samples for rice paddies
• Compile and evaluate historical reference maps and datasets
• Create rice paddy maps over targeted regions and write summary report

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• A MS or BS in environmental sciences, geography, civil engineering, earth system sciences, statistics, or a related field.
• Experience with programming languages (R, Python, MATLAB or similar)
• Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, ENVI, QGIS)
• Good understanding in statistics/data science
• Highly organized and proactive, and with the ability to work independently

Desired Skills:

• Experience with Google Earth Engine
• Experience with digital image processing
• Experience with research and data management

• Handle HR functions - roster, payroll calculation, all Work Pass matters, upkeep employee records and staff welfare

• Planning and Asset Coordination
