OVERVIEW:

The Assistant Marine Superintendent plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our fleet. This position requires a minimum Certification of Competence (CoC) Class 3 and involves a diverse range of responsibilities, including managing safety systems, conducting investigations, optimizing costs, overseeing training programs, and providing marine expertise, all while ensuring regulatory compliance. Collaborating closely with various departments—such as safety, technical, crewing, and training—the Assistant Marine Superintendent is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental protection.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety Management and Training:

• Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) to meet international and industry safety standards.
• Collaborate to create and deliver comprehensive training programs for crew on safety procedures, emergency response, and environmental protection.

Market Research and Investigations:

• Research market trends, regulatory updates, and technological advancements in the maritime sector to identify risks and opportunities.
• Investigate incidents or near-misses involving company vessels to determine causes and recommend corrective actions.

Cost Control and Efficiency:

• Analyze marine operations costs to identify potential savings and implement efficiency measures without compromising safety or performance.
• Monitor vessel operations to ensure compliance with company standards and identify any deviations affecting costs or efficiency.

Reporting and Continuous Improvement:

• Report deficiencies, incidents, and near-misses to relevant stakeholders, including senior management and regulatory authorities.
• Identify areas for improvement in operations, safety procedures, and training, and recommend changes for approval.

Safety and Accident Analysis:

• Work with relevant departments to collect and analyze safety-related data, including injuries and incidents.
• Ensure that appropriate corrective actions are taken to address identified risks.

Training Policies and Review:

• Monitor and review training policies for both shore-based and onboard personnel to ensure effectiveness.
• Collaborate with the training department to update materials and methodologies as needed.

Marine Advice and Vessel Performance:

• Provide expert marine advice to assigned vessels on navigational, communication, cargo handling, and ship handling issues.
• Monitor and provide feedback on the performance of Masters on assigned vessels.

Fleet Instructions and Vessel Vetting:

• Regularly review and update fleet instructions to ensure safe and efficient vessel operations.
• Ensure all vessels undergo thorough vetting to meet the requirements of major oil companies and other stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Class 3 Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by a recognized maritime authority.
• Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of seagoing experience as a senior officer, with command experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISM Code).
• Excellent communication, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership abilities and teamwork skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software applications.
