The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Fellow on a 4 years contract at the Natural Sciences and Science Education Academic Group.

Project Title: Fusion Science for Clean Energy: Gamma-ray Spectroscopy diagnostic for WEST

Project Introduction: As part of our Fusion Science for Clean Energy programme, we have two openings for Research Fellow, to undertake experimental research on Runaway Electron (RE) beams in the WEST tokamak and in a dense plasma focus device using high-rate gamma-ray spectroscopy. RE beams typically occur during tokamak plasma disruptions and in pinched plasma disruptions in dense plasma focus devices. Bremsstrahlung scattering of these energetic electrons orbiting within the machine produce gamma-rays (of energy up to ~20 MeV) – making Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy (GRS) one of the most essential diagnostics for experimental studies of RE beams. Because they can have a large amount of energy, RE beams represent a serious risk of damage to the tokamak. Moreover, this risk increases as the size of machine increases. Consequently, research on RE beams is becoming increasingly important as the size of tokamaks will likely continue to increase over the coming decades. The GRS diagnostic measurements planned for WEST are aimed at understanding and minimizing the damage risk posed by RE beams. GRS diagnostics will be developed and tested initially in Singapore on a dense plasma focus device which also produces gamma-rays due to plasma instabilities.

Requirements

Essential

• A PhD in Physics or Engineering with a strong background in pulsed power systems, and/or plasma/x-ray/gamma-ray diagnostics.
• Strong experience in handling vacuum system, high voltage (15 kV) and high current (200-300 kA) systems.
• Strong experience in development, operation and optimization of plasma devices and associated diagnostics.
• Experience or exposure to neutron, charged-particle and gamma-ray radiation measurements.
• Good written and verbal communication skills with evidence of proven writing skills from research papers and research reports.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret experimental results.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent scientific research and prepare scientific data for publication, and successfully produce impactful publications.
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to travel internationally (especially between Singapore and France).
• Will need to help in all aspects of project management from procurement of equipment and consumable to progress/final report writing.

Responsibilities

• Work on plasma and charged-particle diagnostics on plasma focus device to correlate the gamma ray emission with other emission characteristics of plasma focus device.
• Assist SRF in transfer, setup and operation of GRS on WEST Tokamak in France.

This role will lead the Supply Chain organisation to ensure strategic, customer services and operational imperatives of Singapore Plant are achieved. Lead & direct execution of all Singapore site supply chain activities, including order fulfillment (delivery & documentation creation), supply planning ( capacity, materials and inventory planning), logistics and transportation, 3PL warehousing and Salts Assembly management and Innovation, to exceed customer expectation at lowest cost, aligned to overall PGCS strategy. Ensures compliance with company values, principles, policies, procedures, applicable laws and industry standards. The role also delivers metrics and related activities within the SCM team to drive supply chain alignment with both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop, Lead and Motivate the Singapore supply chain team
2. Develop a Supply Planning strategy in support of achieving target customer service levels with a minimum investment in inventories;
3. Establish and execute a best-in-class Supply and Inventory planning process and continuously improve techniques, method, and approach;
4. Review, align and resolve Asia region inventory compliance, taking into consideration costs;

Customer Engagement: lead the management of 17 markets for the APAC and India region representing .33MMUSD as revenue, total market sales in ASU is 1 MM, plus the planning of Beverage base for the Gatorade business in the US and Canada markets, with a total revenue of 3.5MMUSD; support the planning, forecasting and order management for 309 kits (plus 50 innovations per year in average); manage market insights and intelligence to enhance customer engagement. In addition, as part of customer service activities this role needs to ensure regular S&OP calls are hold with customers and BU/MU/CU to provide prompt status updates and to discuss on any open issues
14. Led face to face meetings with customers and BU/CU/MU to define strategy for the market and continuously work on strengthening and streamlining the processes and demand signals trough the extended supply chain.
15. Support the innovation agenda for the region, in average 50+ innovations per year representing a 1.6% growth on a yearly basis for PEP. Ensuring a flawless execution of the projects meeting the timelines required by the markets.
16. Be the escalation point of contact for supply chain topics impacting the market or the plant

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Business, Supply Chain/Operations or other relevant field of study
• Multi-market, multi-site supply chain with deep understanding of supply chain activities and business critical planning and ability to take a pragmatic practical approach.
