The successful candidate will take a lead on all aspects of science provision at Key Stage 3 and above, as Brighton College (Singapore) expands from a first-class Prep School to one of the region’s leading all-through schools (from Pre-Nursery to Year 13).

This is an exciting opportunity for an educationalist to help shape the development of a secondary curriculum that will provide the platform needed for pupils to go on to some of the world’s leading universities. The Head of Science will report to the Deputy Head Academic. They will be responsible for the pedagogical leadership of the science curriculum, and for ensuring that teaching excellence is embedded throughout all Key Stages. In August 2024, the Senior School at Brighton College (Singapore) will open with Years 7, 8 and 9. The Head of Science will teach across all Key Stage 3 year groups, and will be expected lead the teaching and learning at IGCSE and beyond as the school expands upwards from August 2025. The successful candidate will be able to teach at least one of the three main sciences (biology, chemistry or physics) to GCSE/IGCSE and A-level, and should be able to demonstrate a strong track record of delivering top academic results in public exams in previous roles.

Key Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the teaching, progress and attainment of all pupils in Years 7 to 9 from August 2024, and for all other senior year groups in the following years.
• Lead on all aspects of curriculum planning and delivery, including preparation for the first IGCSE Year 10 cohort starting in August 2025.
• Line manage all other science specialists in the Senior School (both teachers and lab technicians).
• Promote excellence, creativity and innovation in all areas of the science curriculum.
• Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
• Lead on all aspects of assessment, tracking and reporting for science.
• Demonstrate the experience and ability to teach one of the three sciences (biology, chemistry or physics) across all relevant Key Stages (including IGCSE/GCSE and A-level). The ability and enthusiasm for teaching a second science subject to at least Year 9 would be an advantage.
• Act as an outstanding classroom practitioner, with the ability to lead by example.
• Devise and implement rigorous self-evaluation processes.
• Devise and oversee the department’s extension and enrichment programme.
• Demonstrate the experience and expertise needed to support pupils in future years with applications to leading universities, including Oxford and Cambridge and other world-class universities.
• Ensure pupils have opportunities to prepare for, and participate in, global science competitions and Olympiads, providing appropriate stretch and challenge.
• Work closely with the Heads of EAL and AEN to develop pathways for pupils requiring additional support.
• Work with the Prep School science specialists and senior leaders to manage a smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 7.
• Develop the required curriculum and department documentation, both for current and prospective parents.
• Contribute to the highest standards of safeguarding and to the school’s pastoral system, acting as a tutor for a Senior School year group.
• Contribute to the co-curricular life of the school.
• Any other reasonable management request.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a science subject (or any other specialism related to science) with PGCE or equivalent.
• Expert knowledge or experience of successfully delivering GCSEs/IGCSEs and A-level.
• Proven track record of middle leadership (preferred but not essential).
• International experience (preferred but not essential)

Job Description

a) Report to the Project Manager. Responsible for the EHS systems and implementations.

b) The detailed duties and responsibilities includes but not limited to the following:

i) Assist and advise the Project Manager on EHS planning for overall project scope and detailed activities.

ii) Study and fully understand the requirements of company ISO, EHS and sub-contracts agreements.
