Job Description:
Traveloka is seeking an experienced indirect tax professional to join our Tax team as a Senior Manager. Reporting to the VP of Tax, this role will be responsible for working with other Tax team members in driving our business partnering capabilities to proactively support Traveloka’s business expansion efforts, ensuring seamless alignment of tax strategies with overarching business objectives.
The Senior Manager will serve as strategic advisor to business teams, collaborating closely with business teams to understand their business goals, operations, and challenges on a proactive basis. This role will team with cross functional business and stakeholder teams for development and implementation of key strategic tax advice, and facilitate effective communication on tax requirements to all stakeholders.
The ideal candidate should be a motivated self-starter with good business acumen and be able to communicate complex tax concepts in ways that are relevant and meaningful to non-tax professionals. The candidate should have proven experience in international indirect taxes, and have strong collaboration skills to work in partnership with other tax and transfer pricing team members, as well as external tax advisors, to deliver holistic and practical tax solutions. Importantly, the candidate should be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high degree of ambiguity and change, working with a high level of collegiality on projects spanning multiple teams.
In this position, you will:
- Serve as a trusted tax advisor to all areas of our business, building deep and meaningful relationships with all relevant stakeholders
- Management and coordination of all tax business planning and related business enquiries
- Assess business initiatives/enquiries to understand business goals and requirements on a proactive basis for purposes of tax analysis
- Drive standardization and automation of indirect tax processes
- Research and document tax issues, including coordination with external advisors and internal teams, and drafting technical memos/opinions
- Scope impact of new business initiatives on existing processes and systems
- Identify and track planning and policy trends for the geographies we operate in and proactively work with the business on updates required
- Develop commercially viable tax solutions that are consistent and scalable, and ensure projects launch with tax requirements and processes implemented
- Manage the delivery of tax deliverables, coordination and problem-solving across a multi-functional team, including business, legal, accounting, finance teams
- Effectively communicate tax solutions and requirements to internal stakeholders
- Reporting on planning initiatives and launches to tax and business leaders
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Law or relevant related discipline
- 10+ years of tax experience working in large multinational corporations and either legal or public accounting firms
- Experience in international indirect taxes is a must, with ability to navigate direct tax and transfer pricing issues in partnership with support from internal and external advisors
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex tax issues effectively to non-tax audiences
- Knowledge of accounting principles, concepts and entries
- Good business acumen and interpersonal skills with ability to influence and build deep relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multiple complex projects across cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a multinational technology business is preferred
- CA (Chartered Accountant) or equivalent
- Experience with tax technology, automation and transformation
