The College of Integrative Studies (CIS) at Singapore Management University (SMU is seeking to make up to two tenure-track appointments (at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor levels) in Sustainability to help us shape the future of Sustainability research from various discipinary and interdisciplinary approaches. We are interested in applicants in either STEM or non-STEM backgrounds using interdisciplinary approaches and methods, with expertise in areas such as climate science, environmental adaptation and resilience, nature-based solutions, sustainability metrics and indices, climate finance and economics, sustainable urban transport systems, environmental justice, orand the behavioural science of climate policy adoption.
Senior candidates with a track record of leading international teams in externally funded research programmes are especially encouraged to apply. Strong candidates at the Associate or Full Professor levels will be considered for tenure upon appointment.
Candidates should have a PhD degree and/or postdoctoral experience in any of the following disciplines: Conservation Science, Environmental Science, Sustainability Science, Geography, or a closely related discipline.
The CIS delivers the University's Core Curriculum and also offers a suite of programmes including Singapore's first and only individualisable major at the undergraduate level, a Master’s in Sustainability, as well as interdisciplinary Master’s and Ph.D. programmes in Asian Urbanisms.
CIS is an interdisciplinary research hub and we have identified urban sustainability as one of our key research areas. Our faculty includes several colleagues working on urban heat, disasters, water security, sustainability communication, risk and mitigation policies, among other areas.
Applicants should be able to:
- Design and deliver courses that will be delivered as part of the Masters in Sustainability and Master’s and PhD programmes in Asian Urbanisms
- Attract and supervise postgraduate research students
- Mentor Undergraduate students in CIS’ Bachelor of Integrative Studies programme
- Contribute to undergraduate teaching for the SMU Core Curriculum, such as in the Technology and Society course baskets, (see: https://cis.smu.edu.sg/core-curriculum/overview)
- Conceptualise and execute high-quality research, and develop grant applications, on urban-related issues in Asia, broadly defined
- Participate actively in the research and educational communities at SMU, and contribute to at least one of the university’s three areas of strategic priority: Growth in Asia, Digital Transformation, and Sustainable Living
- Contribute to the dynamic intellectual life of CIS, as well as to interdisciplinary dialogue and exchange with colleagues from other Schools (such as Computing and Information Systems, Economics, Law, Business, and the Humanities and Social Sciences)
