Join us as SENIOR / PRINCIPAL LASER DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER and make an impact!
We are looking for a laser development Engineer to design and develop optoelectronics devices, including but not limited to FP lasers, DFB lasers, EMLs, as well as laser modules such as external cavity lasers to meet design goals and requirements. This role also requires you to develop test set-ups and capabilities aligned to the company’s technology and product roadmap, and to integrate them into in-house manufacturing capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop new III-V semiconductor laser devices, test methodologies, set-ups, testing plans and procedures to characterize the optical, electrical, RF, and thermal performance of optoelectronic devices.
- Design and lead test experiments to characterize laser diode components, identify engineering trades-offs, and close the gap between measurements and simulations whilst ensuring integrity and traceability of test and sample data
- You will be the strategic point of contact for the development of laser devices used in our optical engines, liaising with our key internal and external customers. In addition, you will contribute to defining POET’s laser integration roadmap, in collaboration with the team.
- Generate test reports with measurement results and detailed analyses in a timely manner.
- Be part of the team responsible for the full life-cycle support of the components, from initial design & development, procurement and full characterization to packaging and high-volume manufacturing.
You need to stay on top of the market technology and competition within your competence domain and benchmark POET’s solutions.
Qualifications:
- Degree or Post-graduate degree (Masters or PhD or equivalent) in optical engineering, physics, electrical engineering or relevant field
- A focus on semiconductor device design and characterization is preferred.
Experience & Skillsets:
- 3+ years working experience in a relevant industry preferably in lasers and semiconductor photonic devices.
- Experience with laser simulations, including optical gain and loss, electrical carriers, mode confinement, etc
· Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes (lithography, wet/dry etch, oxidation, implantation, dielectric/metal deposition) is preferred
● Familiar with laser device and waveguide simulation tools (i.e. Lumerical, Crosslight, or similar)
● Familiar with data analysis tools like Python, Excel/JMP, Minitab, DOE
● Familiar with mask layout design packages (i.e. Klayout or similar)
● An enthusiastic team player, yet able to independently solve complex problems with limited supervision, in a fast-paced and highly challenging environment.
● Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely.
● Can collaborate and work effectively with colleague across culture, teams and projects.
