Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) of National University of Singapore (NUS) has an immediate vacancy in the area of regional sea level variability in the warming climate.

The ongoing Project “Understanding the low-frequency variability of coastal sea level in Southeast Asia using a regional ocean model and observations” has been funded by National Research Foundation until 31 July 2025. -running NEMO ocean model using past and projected forces provided by the atmospheric team;

-use data analysis and model simulations experiments to understand the mechanism of regional sea level variability driven by large scale atmosphere/oceanic processes.

The Memory Aging & Cognition Centre (MACC) is a Research Center within the National University Health System funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council that focuses on the study of dementia and cognitive impairment in the elderly. The MACC currently has 4 research themes on biomarker discovery, neuroimaging, clinical assessment and epidemiology.

There is an opportunity for a qualified candidate with interests in Neuroimaging to join the MACC in a Research Fellow role to study the neural basis of cognition and associated vulnerability patterns in neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases. There is access to a 3T MR, MR-PET and retinal imaging.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform academic research on neuroimaging (CT, MRI, PET and retinal) and its association with cognition and other clinical outcomes in MACC observational and clinical trial cohorts.
2. Provide supervision and training to research associates / research assistants / students.
3. Validate neuroimaging biomarkers in Singaporean and global populations.
4. Supervise and perform neuroimaging rating and analyses for observational studies, clinical trials, and collaborative projects.
5. Provide expertise to work with collaborators on the design and analyses of imaging studies.

Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Fellow in the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Department of Medicine will be working with the National University Health System Transformation Office to develop innovative care models and related research. The objective is to improve health for patients and residents both within the health system and in the community. By testing and evaluating successful interventions, high impact research will be generated that will inform the longer term of scaling and sustaining solutions for the healthcare system and beyond. Appointments will be made on a one-year basis with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The RF will work closely with the Principal Investigator to develop research based on the Transformation Office’s initiatives. In addition, the RF will work with the PI to train the team to undertake research studies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The RF will be expected to:

• lead the quantitative/qualitative research related to intervention evaluation
• contribute towards research protocol development
• manage the ethics application process
• mentor and deliver training sessions to junior staff (research associates, research assistants)
• supervise the collection of survey data
• perform statistical analysis on collected data, extracting meaningful insights and drawing relevant conclusions
• develop scientific papers and the dissemination of the study findings
• collaborate with researchers at the Department of Medicine

Qualifications

The applicant should:

1. hold a PhD in public health or health services research or appropriate social science discipline
2. be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail
3. have knowledge of computer applications
4. be fluent in written and spoken English
5. good scientific writing skills as demonstrated by track records of publications in international peer-reviewed journals
6. be organized and able to prioritize workload

Job Description

Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) of National University of Singapore (NUS) has a vacancy in the area of storm surge and tide modelling in the warming climate.

The upcoming Project funded by a Singapore Agency for 4 years includes regional (South-East Asia, SEA) dynamical downscaling of storm surges using CMIP6 GCMs atmospheric projections for 21st century. The particular emphasis will be on storm surges trend and extremes in Singapore coastal waters. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• setting and running DELFT3D Flexible Mesh (DELFT3D-FM) model using past and projected atmospheric forces downscaled by an atmospheric team;
• use model experiments and data analysis to compute and understand mechanisms of regional (SEA) and Singapore Strait storm surge variability and trend driven by larger scale atmosphere/ocean processes.

Candidate will be having Ph.D. in ocean/coastal sciences/engineering from a reputable University.

Depending on qualifications and experience, successful Candidate could be employed at Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow level.

Qualifications

Successful candidate will be having the following knowledge, skills and experience:

• Understanding of mechanisms of storm surge generation and propagation at various scales, from global to local.
• Understanding of mechanisms of ocean/coastal responses to the climate change.
• Capability to set and run regional numerical experiments using DELFT3D-FM model.
• Capability to apply modern data analysis methods developed for sea level research;
• Experience with XBeach and OpenDA methods and software is an advantage;
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary team of researchers, including ocean/coastal and atmosphere scientists;

The Signature Research Programme in Health Services & Systems Research (“HSSR”) in Duke-NUS Medical School is a centre of academic excellence for research and education on the organisation, funding and delivery of health services. The programme’s focus is on public health and clinical service innovation in an increasingly complex and connected world. The major research focus of HSSR is the organisation and delivery of health and social services in the context of an ageing population. The research methods include decision science and simulation modelling, survey research, qualitative research, health economics, and implementation science and evaluation. We are also developing a range of education activities for health care professionals including short courses, graduate certificates, Masters course and PhD programmes.

A Senior Research Fellow position is currently available, and the successful candidate will be expected to perform a variety of research activities which include but not limited to the following: -

• Build up an Implementation Science core in HSSR and Health Services Research Institute (“HSRI”)
• Bring in grants in collaboration with our collaborators.
