PhD and Postdoctoral positions in single cell algorithms and data analytics: Analysis of Human diversity in the Human Cell Atlas (HCA)

Humans are diverse, and this diversity influences the properties of our cells, as well as our developmental processes, and disease mechanisms, diagnoses, and treatments. The impact of population-specific genetic variation on disease risk and healthcare is widely appreciated, and this can contribute to health disparities. To build a single cell reference atlas suitable for diverse population groups, we seek to characterise the impact of genes and environment on molecular traits in cells from diverse individuals across the globe. Specifically, we aim to uncover the influence of genetics, ancestry, age and sex on human phenotypes in health and disease.

We are looking for team members who will develop cutting-edge AI/machine learning methods and pipelines to integrate and interrogate gene expression and regulatory profiles of >10 million cells from thousands of donors. Your work will help establish a healthy immune baseline for disease comparisons, and craft and curate atlases of human cells that will transform our understanding of human biology. Successful candidates for this position will have the opportunity to collaborate with, learn from, and contribute to teams across the world studying diverse donors and tissues, including the Human Cell Atlas bionetworks.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable full-time Research Associate to work on a project about assessing the impact of digital information resilience, funded by the Ministry of Education AcRF Tier 3 grant. The contract is renewable up to 3 years.

The successful candidate will assist the funded research project entitled “Digital Information Resilience: Restoring Trust and Nudging Behaviours in Digitalisation”. The candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of scholars based in Singapore to advance research and knowledge on digital information resilience. The project aims to identify and measure digital information resilience for digital readiness, inclusion and safety based on an original indicator framework.

The successful candidate will assist to develop new indicators for measuring digital information resilience. They will conduct interviews, facilitate focus groups, develop and implement surveys, and code the data-sets using qualitative and quantitative research methods. They will also be required to support project management, research admin and deliverables such as reports/journal articles, workshops and webinars.

Qualifications

• At least a PhD or Masters degree or equivalent in the Social Sciences/Humanities, and demonstrated research experience in communications and media studies, including digital media policy and regulation.
• An interest and knowledge in digital wellbeing, information resilience, digital inequality/divide, and new media will be a bonus.
• Good project management, communications management, data administration skills, and an aptitude for working in an interdisciplinary team environment;
• Research experience in qualitative research (e.g., interview, focus groups) desirable;
• Strong research skills and experience in using (or willingness to learn) qualitative data analysis software (NVivo);
• Excellent command of spoken and written English, and the ability to write for a variety of audiences;
