Notwithstanding, the discovery of new covalent kinase and epigenetic drugs remains highly challenging, including issues related to selectivity, efficacy and acquired drug resistance. Taking cue from the kinase drug discovery field, the hypothesis of these projects is that a universal strategy for targeted covalent inhibitors (TCIs) capable of potent target inhibition and minimal acquired drug resistance is possible, if highly effective small molecules could be developed to covalently target non-cysteine (C) nucleophilic residues within/near the active-site of kinase/epigenetic proteins. Our recent discovery of covalent kinase inhibitors against BCR-ABL (a key kinase for CML) in which CBA/SA and EBA warheads formed stable, (reversible and irreversible) covalent linkage with catalytic lysine (K) in Abl kinase under cellular environments indicates other covalent chemistries are feasible. Therefore, the goal of the current proposals is to confirm covalent chemistries targeting other nucleophilic residues (E/D/R/M/etc) are possible, and amenable to the development of cell-active, selective TCIs for various therapeutic proteins.

• To compile a database of narrative evidence describing weather conditions and weather events, their impacts and associated societal responses (through archival analysis of international collections of missionary documents and newspapers from historical archives), and to assist in converting qualitative descriptions of rainfall conditions into continuous quantitative ordinal-scale climate indices (using standard historical climatology methods);
• To use the narrative evidence compiled in point 2, to explore the impacts of rainfall extremes upon societies in Singapore, Malaysia and Sumatra during the study period through modelling and/or historical analysis.

Main Purpose of Job:

• The Regional Research & Development (R&D) Manager will be primarily responsible to oversee and manage the full spectrum of R&D Division activities in Yanmar International Singapore Pte Ltd (YIS).
• To establish a close partnership with regional R&D teams in the designated overseas companies and with Japan headquarters (HQ) R&D Senior Management to ensure contribution of regional R&D initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Develop the regional R&D strategy plan as part of HQ’s R&D strategy planning process and provide input on business priorities and challenges faced regionally.
• To work with the HQ R&D Division and regional Corporate Planning departments to ensure that R&D programs formulated supports the business needs, and act as a change advocate to help drive these initiatives into each business.
• Determine regional short-term and mid-term R&D roadmap and strategies in accordance with the HQ’s R&D strategies and business requirements.
• Oversee all research, planning, and implementation of new programs and protocols for the designated overseas companies including the development of new products.
• Coordinate with overseas R&D departments on the implementation of activities related to Product Development and Product Testing areas, as well as for the improvement of existing products and technologies.
• Oversee all Product Testing and Product Development initiatives that are carried out in overseas companies.
• Work with relevant divisions to ensure successful developmental processes for new products and programs, from initial planning to implementation and production, as well as follow-up after implementation.
• Assess the scope of research projects and ensure the regional projects will be completed on time and within approved budgets.
• Develop and implement regional R&D policies and procedures.
• Provide overall R&D governance for the designated overseas companies.
• Plan, manage and monitor all R&D budget matters in the designated overseas companies.
• Functional management of all R&D staffing ensuring maximum productivity and responsibility for staff development.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• The Regional R&D Manager will be responsible to lead the R&D Division in YIS to accomplish all divisional goals and responsibilities.

Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration/Management or related technical field.
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in regional R&D strategic planning/delivery management and project management, especially in process improvement, best-practice, and partnership with business leaders.
• Minimum 5 years’ working experience in people management especially in a management position.
• Good understanding of R&D practices and regulatory compliance in Asia Pacific.
• Prior experience in Manufacturing or Machinery Industry will be an added advantage.
• Prior experience in working in a multi-cultural environment is an added advantage.
• Fluent in both spoken and written English. Ability to speak and understand Japanese language is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Conduct experimental research on various properties of the Company’s products, as well as analysis and tests to investigate the chemical phenomena of products.
• Responsible for new product testing, development and prototype production; as well as assisting customers during material evaluation and qualification phases with the Company’s products.
• To work closely with customers in the development of suitable material configurations to meet customer needs and providing technical support to them.

Requirements:

• Degree in Chemical Engineering / Chemistry / Materials Science / Polymer.
• At least 1 – 2 years of working experience in similar capacity. Those with more than 3 years of experience will be considered for Senior Engineer's position.
• Knowledge of polymer science and semiconductor materials composition.
• Knowledge of IC package encapsulant and semiconductor back-end processes.
• Knowledge in material characterization and/or FA equipments is preferred.
• Experience in DOE, FEM and numerical analysis would be advantageous.
• Innovative, meticulous, analytical with initiative.
