Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute, NTU is looking for a Research Fellow with expertise in chemical reactors to develop an improved prototype for a thermocatalytic process.

The project is funded by National Environment Agency, Singapore to address one of the largest problems in waste management – the problem of plastic waste pollution. A significant fraction of plastic waste has substandard quality for mechanical and chemical recycling even after sorting and cleaning. The Research Fellow will work on the design, fabrication and testing of a chemical reactor system that will use pyrolysis-chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology for converting these plastic waste streams (specifically, contaminated and rejected plastics) into multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and hydrogen. The role of Research Fellow is to design a system prototype that can effectively mitigate the impact of impurities from diverse plastic waste streams on production outputs and can be operated in a continuous mode.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate will be undertaking full research work and administrative duties during the term of employment within the following areas:

• Experimental work on plastic waste conversion into carbon nanotubes and hydrogen.
• Design, procurement, installation and operation of the prototype system;

Prof Mary Chan-Park and her team have recently won a highly competitive large grant on the design, synthesis and studies of the improved RNA delivery vehicles.

Prof Mary Chan-Park is currently the Centre Director of the Centre for RNA Delivery Therapeutics. She is also the current President Chair Professor of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (2024 onwards) and the 2019 Board of Trustees Chaired Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (2019-2024), both at the Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU Singapore). She also holds a joint appointment at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at NTU. She is the Director of the Centre for Antimicrobial Bioengineering and the Director of the NTU Laboratory for RNA Delivery Therapeutics. She is a Fellow of the America Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering.

The Research Fellow will take on a significant role to design and synthesize new lipids or polymers that are stimuli-responsive and suitable for nanoparticle delivery formulations. New alternative delivery vehicles for the promising RNA nanomedicine are urgently needed to replace the current ones to achieve great delivery efficacy with less side effects. We have shown that some polymeric or lipid nanoparticles are excellent candidates as delivery agents.

• Lead and conduct risk assessments for new projects, products, services, and market expansions.
• Prepare regular risk reports and dashboards for the board, management, and other stakeholders.
• Monitor external risk factors, including regulatory changes, industry developments, and market trends, and recommend proactive strategies to mitigate potential risks.
• Ensure the development of crisis management plans, business continuity strategies, and other frameworks to handle unforeseen risks and events.
• Develop and implement risk training programs to raise awareness and educate employees about risk management principles and procedures.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field (Master’s degree or professional certification in risk management preferred).
• Proven experience (7+ years) in risk management, internal controls, or compliance, preferably in the tech, financial, or fintech industry.
• Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, industry regulations, and compliance standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional leadership team.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior leadership and board members.
• High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously.
• Familiarity with risk management software and tools.

Responsibilities:

• Manage cheque deposits and courier services.
• Enter supplier invoices in SAP.
• Update Singapore customs permit details.
• Send monthly exchange rates.
• Download daily bank transactions and email updated bank balances.
• Create freight charge invoices for customers.
• Send monthly account statements and reminder emails.
• Update SAP deadlines.
• Prepare payments and transfers through online banking.
