Postdoctoral Fellowship in Asia Research Institute (Science, Technology and Society Research Cluster)

The Asia Research Institute invites outstanding, active researchers from around the world to work on an important piece of Asia-centred research in the social sciences or humanities.

Apart from the quality of the research proposal, and the applicant’s publication track record, positions will be awarded on the basis of the relationship of their research topic to the identified priorities and themes of the cluster.

The Science, Technology, and Society (STS) Cluster concentrates on the relationship between those three domains in and beyond Asian settings, and their intersections with the environment in the past, present and future.

The cluster currently brings together a diverse, interdisciplinary group of researchers who work on the following research themes:

i) climate change and carbon governance;

ii) planetary health and ‘Asian medicines’;

iii) energy transitions, infrastructure and space;

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Researcher will work under the supervision of the Cluster Leader and take the lead in duties such as organising workshops and conferences, participating in current cluster projects, and carrying out new projects (including applying for grant funding). Project Overview

This research project aims to grasp dynamic changes in hotel capital investments and their influences on tourism-related local businesses before, during, and after the pandemic on two geographic scales -- region (Asia-Pacific) and city (Singapore). This aim is outlined by the following three objectives:

• Examining the significance of sustainable development attributes in explaining the spatial distribution of new hotel development projects across selected cities in the Asia-Pacific region;
• Estimating the influences of new hotel development projects on the establishment of tourism-small business enterprises within and around hotel districts in Singapore; and

Job Description

We have an opening for a Research Fellow (Transportation) in areas related to connected and automated vehicles (CAVs). Specifically, we expect the selected candidate to lead and pursue high-quality research on intelligent transportation systems, including but not limited to traffic control in urban and highway contexts, vehicle dynamics and control, and optimization of transportation infrastructure. In addition to research, the selected candidate is expected to help draft research proposals and supervise graduate and undergraduate students.

Job Requirements

• Possess a PhD degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other closely related fields
• Research experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems with excellent publication record
• Good programming and analytical skills.
• Expertise in control theory, optimization, game theory, and machine learning is highly preferable .

Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore is recruiting a Research Engineer. The successful candidate will work on experiments and numerical modelling of 3D breaking waves and wave-current interaction. The candidate should have strong knowledge background in terms of waves, currents, turbulence, etc. Experience with experiments and CFD model will be advantageous. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our dynamic research team focused on investigating electron transport phenomena in twisted moiré superlattices, such as twisted multilayer graphene, TMDC, and 2D superconductors. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of two-dimensional materials, with a specific emphasis on understanding and manipulating electron transport properties in these unique structures.

Job Responsibilities

Experimental Design and Implementation

• Design and fabricate devices incorporating 2D materials to explore novel electronic properties

Measurements and Data Analyses

• Utilize advanced characterization techniques, such as electron transport measurements, atomic force microscopy (AFM), Raman spectroscopy, etc, to analyze the behaviour of the heterostructures
• Interpret experimental results and provide insights into the underlying physics governing electron transport in the studied materials

Publication and Presentation

• Prepare high-quality research papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Present research findings at conferences and seminars to the scientific community

Collaboration and Teamwork

• Collaborate with fellow researchers, graduate students, and principal investigators to foster a multidisciplinary research environment
• Contribute to the mentorship of graduate students and junior researchers
