This project aims to model the corrosion induced damage process in reinforced concrete. A multi-physics model is envisioned, to capture the ingress of chloride ions, the stress loading on concrete material due to the formation of corrosion products, and the resultant damage in concrete. As a part of the NRF Fellowship Project on Materials-by-Design, School of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) is looking to hire a Research Assistant with expertise in high-throughput synthesis of inorganic materials and optimization using machine learning. The Research Assistant will build upon our team’s experience toward developing high-throughput experimental platforms for synthesis, characterization and functional performance testing (thermoelectric performance, catalytic performance) of a library of materials.  The Research Assistant will focus on synthesizing and characterizing inorganic materials, specifically inorganic chalcogenides for thermoelectrics and metal alloy catalysts for CO2 reduction.

Additionally, the Research Assistant will conduct in-depth structural and elemental characterization and analysis of the materials using XRD, SEM-EDX and XPS. Finally, thermoelectric measurements experiments will be conducted. The Research Assistant should be able to utilize design-of-experiments and high-throughput experimental workflows. In addition, materials science and metallurgical concepts such as phase diagrams, mapping and separating different phases and oxidation states of compounds and rapid structural analysis are required. Finally, machine learning will be applied to guide experimental campaigns.

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) seeks a Research Assistant in the areas of natural hazard impacts.

The candidate will work under the supervision of David Lallemant and Susanna Jenkins and will collaborate with the researchers from the ‘Integrating Volcano and Earthquake Science and Technology (InVEST) in Southeast Asia’ project, a 5-year project that aims to provide a holistic understanding of regional tectonics, volcanoes, the linkages between the two, and their cascading hazards and impacts in Singapore and Southeast Asia. 

Specific research/duties will include identifying potentially impactful hazard scenarios in the Southeast Asian Ring of Fire, contributing to numerical modelling of the hazard and its consequences, developing key case studies that can inform and support policy decisions, and preparing information and outputs in ways that can be used to communicate with policy makers and other risk stakeholders.

EOS is a Research Centre of Excellence at Nanyang Technological University Singapore that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies.

EOS maintains a regional network of geophysical observation stations in collaboration with neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia, that are supported by the EOS Centre for Geohazard Observations, as well as a Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS). A Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Assistant Professor Kazuyuki Kasahara at the Novena campus of the LKCMedicine. Gut microbiota influences many areas of human health from immunity to energy metabolism and host physiology. The goal of our research group is to understand how bacterial metabolism, diet-microbe, and microbe-microbe interactions influence cardiometabolic disease (CMD). We will address the research question through a combination of experimental approaches including anaerobic bacterial physiology studies, metagenomics, and deep phenotypic characterization of mouse models of CMD.

The RA will work with the research team on the planning and execution of projects undertaken by the lab. The RA will also be handling the procurement and safety to support laboratory research needs.
