As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

We are looking for a research engineer / fellow to help us develop a novel design for a blast door system as part of an industrial research project developing. The results of this project will be used in projects throughout Singapore. It is our aim to include all the door components in the analysis, making this a holistically developed solution.
The research will be conducted using numerical simulations, experiments and analytical solutions. The successful candidate will have a chance to acquire in depth experience in all these aspects of protective research and design.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
• Be responsible for these technical deliverables:Develop models of the door system using advanced finite element software.
  Plan and conduct blast testing of the proposed solutions.
  Conduct laboratory tests of components as needed.
  Develop analytical models for fast design.
  
• Carry out Risk Assessments and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
• Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors/suppliers.
• Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure the achievement of the project objectives and proper operation and maintenance of equipment.

Job Requirements:

• Have a basic knowledge of structural dynamics.
• Have a degree (preferably Master’s or PhD) in mechanical engineering, electrical / electronics engineering or related domains.
• Knowledge of blast and shock loading theory and applications would be advantageous
• Knowledge of non linear materials modelling would be advantageous

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading specific research programmes in remote sensing technology and applications. They are expected to continuously enhance the scientific knowledge of the Centre and participate actively in remote sensing technology development and application projects.

We are specifically looking for candadiates to lead the following projects:

1. Monitoring Water Quality and Harmful Algal Blooms in Singapore Coastal Waters with Multispectral and Hyperspectral Satellite Data.
Experience and expertise in the following areas will be advantageous:
* Theory and applications of ocean colour remote sensing and ocean optics.
* Retrieval of water quality parameters from in-situ and satellite data.
* In-situ measurements of sea water optical properties.
* Radiative transfer simulations (e.g. with Hydrolight code) of water reflectance.
* Atmospheric correction of satellite data.
* Machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques for remote sensing applications.

2. Forest Biomass Estimation Using Spaceborne Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar Data.
Experience and expertise in the following areas will be advantageous:
* Theory and applications of polarimetric synthetic aperture radar.
* Estimation of forest biomass from satellite data.
* Airborne, spaceborne Lidar for vegetation studies.
* Regional land cover/vegetation/biomass mapping.
* Land use and land cover change.
* Machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques for remote sensing applications.

Qualifications

- A Doctoral Degree in Science, Engineering, or in other relevant disciplines with research experience in remote sensing or related fields.

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to play a leading role in the development of a climate risk framework for Singapore and other major cities in Southeast Asia as part of an interdisciplinary and multi-institute research project titled Developing a risk assessment and communication platform to translate climate projections to policy.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in advancing our understanding of climate risk reduction in Singapore and the region, and work closely with Professor Winston Chow (Singapore Management University), Professor Adam Switzer (Nanyang Technological University), Associate Professor Sonny Rosenthal (Nanyang Technological University), Associate Professor Brian McAdoo (Duke University) and Associate Professor Terry van Gevelt (Singapore Management University).

Key tasks will include, among others:

• Conducting research to identify key climate risks in Singapore and other major cities in Southeast Asia;
• Examining instances of successful adaptation or maladaptation, and path dependencies in climate risk reduction approaches;
• Collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team;

The project officer in RRIS will provide research and domain expertise in the field of the built environment and its impact on participation, psychosocial wellbeing, and public health indicators. He/she will also contribute expertise in the fields of musculoskeletal, aging and rehabilitation research. This contributes to RRIS’ diversity of work and facilitates interdisciplinary research to achieve excellence in rehabilitation research.

Key Responsibilities:
