The Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies (ALCNS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking candidates to apply for the role of Research Fellow within its Research Programmes. Purpose of the post

The Senior Research Fellow (SRF) will work closely with the Principle Investigator (PI) and Core team members to engage in thorough research, generate impactful papers for publication in top-tier academic journals; and successfully obtain competitive funding for the research programme.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Research Fellow will be able to:

1. conduct independent and collaborative research in one of our research programmes, under the supervision of senior faculty mentors/PI;
2. develop and implement research projects, including study design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation;
3. publish research findings in high impact peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences and seminars;
4. contribute to the development of grant proposals to secure funding for research projects;
5. assist in the supervision and mentorship of honor and graduate students involved in research activities;
6. contribute to relevant teaching in the department
7. contribute to the dissemination of research findings to the broader community through outreach activities, including public lectures or community engagement initiatives;
8. participate in departmental meetings, research seminars, and other academic activities to contribute to the scholarly environment of ALCNS.

Qualifications

The applicant should have:

1. a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Nursing or a related field from an accredited institution;
2. a strong background and expertise in nursing or health-related research;
3. a track record of scholarly productivity, including publications in high impact or top peer-reviewed journals e.g., the BMJ;
4. experience in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies;
5. ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment;
6. excellent written and verbal communication skills;
7. prior experience in grant writing (securing external funding is an advantage).

Project Title: Science of learning-based interventions to improve literacy, numeracy, and well-being in students: an umbrella review

Project Information: The main objective of this project is to synthesize work on interventions that have been designed to level-up students who face difficulties in literacy, numeracy, and well-being from Primary to Secondary levels, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds or with special needs. By means of a PRISMA framework, we will conduct a systematic literature search and screening to identify eligible articles for each topic. A preliminary literature search will be conducted to estimate the amount of literature on each topic. As approach to synthesize the literature, we will use an umbrella review for each topic, i.e., focusing on meta-synthesis, synthesis, and review literature. The findings will allow the identification of effective interventions for each topic in facing challenges throughout the students’ school period.

Requirements:

Academic qualification:

• Master’s degree in Education and/or Psychology or similar areas

Work experience:

• Prior experience conducting systematic literature reviews
• Prior experience conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis
• Prior experience conducting meta-analysis

The successful candidate will support the Centre by i) conducting research projects aligned to the Centre’s strategy and key priorities, ii) preparing reports, publications and materials for funding bids, iii) providing supervision and mentorship to junior researchers, particularly in the area of mixed methods research, and iv) facilitating workshops and engagement activities.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Work closely with the team leads, cross-disciplinary research teams and collaborators.
• Design, plan, undertake and deliver research and evaluation projects using a combination of methods – with a focus on mixed methods studies and related designs.
• Provide expert methodological advice in mixed methods to Centre staff and related inputs across Centre projects.

This is a one-year contractual position offered in connection with CIL’s expansion of its programme on Public International Law. The objective of the positions is to develop the research capabilities and knowledge of junior scholars by immersing them in a dynamic and supportive research environment where they can enhance their understanding of different areas of Public International Law.

The duties of the incumbent will involve:

1. Engaging in research and writing on different areas of Public International Law;

2. Assisting in preparation of the curriculum, reading materials and administration of the CIL Academy of International Law;

3. Assisting in preparation of the annual international law year in review conference, as well as other seminars and workshops;

4. Publishing at least a journal paper on a topic approved by the Head of the programme by the end of the appointment term;

5. Assisting the CIL Director in developing projects as well as seminars and conferences.
