Research project: Connecting within-host viral dynamics with the epidemiology of COVID-19: a multiscale computational infrastructure

In this project, we aim to develop a multiscale modeling framework and computational infrastructure to connect within-host viral dynamics/antibody dynamics and between-host transmission dynamics. The multiscale model will help address key epidemiological and public health questions which could not be answered by classic (single scale) approaches. Specifically, we plan to develop and calibrate the multiscale model for SARS-CoV-2 and assess effect of intervention (e.g., antiviral treatment) on epidemiological dynamics.

This project is led by Keisuke Ejima, an Assistant Professor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University.

The Research Fellow primarily leads the project under supervision of PI in the areas of collecting clean data, reviewing literatures, lead model development, lead data analyses, leading the manuscript writing and other areas of the project support.

Candidates should have a Master degree in a quantitative field, such as data science, computational biology, mathematics, computer science, (bio)statistics, or related field. Research experience and/or educational background on public health and medicine is a plus but not essential. Computational experience on R and MONOLIX is preferred. The Carney lab investigates the cell dynamics in the skeletal system and epithelia. Guided by issues facing the clinic, the lab has recently modelled diseases affecting skeletal system and has developed a model of bone necrosis.

We are currently recruiting a Research Associate to work on interrogating a zebrafish model of a clinical bone necrosis. Working closely with a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, the job will include molecular biology, animal husbandry, cloning, transgenesis and genotyping as well as imaging approaches. Furthermore, the applicant will be expected to offer general support in laboratory maintenance tasks, including laboratory supply and inventory control, procurement and routine genotyping and fish line maintenance. Job Description

• Prepare materials for daily lessons, department noticeboard displays, regular department programmes such as competitions and external school activities, perform gardening duties related to science curriculum and provide support for ad-hoc science programmes
• Clean and organize science equipment
• Maintain cleanliness of science labs
• Manage and organize inventory list
• Provide logistical support in department and school programmes
• Support in administrative work, Microsoft applications: Excel, Word
• Able to keep composure and work in dynamic environment
• Assist with planting/greening activities held in eco-garden and its routine maintenance.
• Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by HOD/LH-Science and/or Admin Manager

Requirements

• Must minimally possess “N” level certification
• Good command in English Language, written and spoken
• Must have 2 years of prior experience working in a Primary School Science laboratory.
• Preferably have worked with plants or involved in planting/greening activities to support teachers carrying out eco-garden maintenance.

Working hours

• Mondays to Fridays: 7:15am to 4:15pm, inclusive of 1hr lunch break
• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays
