Role Profile

The Markets Analyst – is a new position within the editorial team, tasked with developing the company's analytical capabilities and content for the tanker, dry cargo, and gas segments.

The role will be vital in helping set the agenda of the company's coverage of international shipping markets through daily news, features and analysis.

The Markets Analyst will report to the APAC Editor and work closely with the Markets Editor in creating and developing data-led analysis of companies and markets to the high standards of the company's editorial guidelines.

The role requires someone who will also help raise the profile of our wider maritime business through external representation at events and presentations.

This is a permanent role which reports to the Markets Editor. This role is based on a balanced working model between home and their centrally located Singapore office

Key Responsibilities

• Creating original analysis-led articles on commodities shipping.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with industry stakeholders including shipbrokers, shipowners and commodities-related businesses.
• Writing news and markets analysis that provides a consistently reliable and authoritative view of short and long-term market trends that helps readers’ business decision-making.
• Developing and executing data sets on vessel fleets and freight rates utilising both in-house and third-party sources, for inclusion in articles.
• Providing subject-matter expertise as required by the business.
• Participating in events as required, in either a presenter or moderator role.

Requirements

• At least 5 years’ experience in markets reporting in either the dry cargo, tanker or gas segments.
• A broad understanding of the commodity shipping markets.
• Proven knowledge and understanding of current/future trade dynamics.
• Self-motivation and initiative to drive projects and meet tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English
• Advanced communication skills to engage with both colleagues and industry C-suite executives.
• An existing, broad network of industry contacts.

Desirable

• Experience in the shipbroking research and/or consulting sectors.
• A relevant shipping-related qualification.

• Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure
• Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
• Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability

Requirements:

• Diploma / Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or equivalent

• Minimum 2 years of knowledge of the following technologies:

1. VMware vCenter: ESXi, SRM, VRM
2. Security operation and technologies such as Privileged Access Management, Endpoint Protection Platform, Firewall
3. System MonitoringoBackup And Recovery
4. Windows Server OS with good understanding of Windows AD, DNS, GPO and Failover Clustering – Having certifications will be advantageous.
5. SAN storage with good understanding of remote site replication (Knowledge of administrating Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform would be an added advantage) – Having certifications will be advantageous.

• Day to day AML-related issues including reviewing and handling sanctions or transaction monitoring investigations or KYC approvals and assisting with overseeing monitoring of AML matters as set out in local regulations and HO policies
• Assisting in reviewing and keeping dept desk procedures and guides up to date
• Conducting AML reviews and advising on AML requirements (but excluding legal advice)

Requirements :

• Degree or Diploma
• At least 2 years + AML experience in a bank or financial institution. Candidates with lesser experience will be considered at entry level
• Must have an eye for detail and an analytical mind and willing to be hands on
• Understanding of MAS 626 and AML requirements
• Willing to be hands-on, team oriented and able to work under pressure

• Good communication skills (verbal and written)

• Business knowledge across Capital Markets, especially on the Regulatory Reporting
• Experience of working with teams distributed across geographies
• Hands on experience writing functional requirements / user stories
• Establish professional working relationship with IT, FA change & Regulatory teams locally
• Lead in analysis and scoping of data sourcing and functional enhancements, functional/application design, functional specifications, discuss and obtain users agreements
• Perform business analysis activities such as supporting requirements gathering, process mapping and re-engineering, prepare traceability matrix, BRD, and manage other change tools
• Analyze existing and potential operational impacts from the change implemented, ensure risks and issues are well captured and managed.
• Experience in working with an onsite-offsite development team and delivery model
• Ability to build strong working relationships with both IT and Business Partners
• Regulatory/ Financial reporting exposure (HKMA, MAS or other APAC regulators)
