Responsible for managing and optimizing the supply chain to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of materials required for production. This role involves planning, coordinating, and monitoring the flow of materials to meet production schedules, while minimizing costs and maintaining high standards of quality and inventory control. The Material Planning Engineer will collaborate with various departments, including engineering, procurement, production, and sales, to ensure seamless operations and continuous improvement of material planning processes.
The incumbent will undertake any or all the following and has authority for:
- Perform material and process projects.
- Address materials and process concerns from suppliers, manufacturing, and customers.
- Offer material information and data to Engineering.
- Update material and specifying process.
- Analyse materials on manufacturing, product, supplier, and customer concerns.
- Determine the amount of material required and held in stock.
- Plan for the replenishment of these stocks.
- Create inventory levels for each type of item (raw material, work in progress, or finished goods).
- Coordinate and communicate information and requirements to procurement operations and the extended supply chain.
- Monitor material requirements and adjust plans as necessary to accommodate changes in demand or production schedules.
- Develop and implement material planning strategies to meet production schedules.
- Conduct regular inventory audits and implement inventory control procedures.
- Utilize forecasting techniques to predict material needs based on production plans and sales forecasts.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to incorporate market trends and customer demand into material planning.
- Adjust forecasts and plans based on actual production and sales data.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of material planning operations.
- Update material specifications and processes to meet evolving needs.
- Analyse data related to material usage, inventory levels, and supplier performance to inform decision-making
- Prepare and present regular reports on material planning metrics and key performance indicators.
- Use data to identify and resolve issues related to material shortages, excess inventory, or supply chain disruptions.
- Ensure all works are performed to the specified procedure per documented work order system
- Comply with all applicable quality, health, safety, security and environmental regulation
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor’s) in engineering or a related field
- At least 3-5 years of working experience in oil & gas/manufacturing
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good project management and organizational abilities, able to coordinate and facilitate across various internal and external functions to achieve the desired outcomes
- Must be motivated, driven and be a team player and also be able to work independently
