Position Summary:
- This role is for a Welding Engineer focused on marine shipyard projects involving electrical installations. Responsibilities include steel fabrication and welding for electrical equipment setup, cable ladder supports, and steel deck or bulkhead penetrations for cables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret project specifications, prepare detailed worklists, and resolve technical issues.
- Select and order materials and subcontractors as needed.
- Plan, execute, and oversee work scope, progress, schedule, manpower, and materials.
- Collaborate with SRM/PJM, trade supervisors, and foremen to ensure timely, safe, and quality completion of tasks.
- Monitor, observe, and train subordinates.
- Understand technical specifications and drawings, and prepare comprehensive job lists.
- Lead work plans to meet owner/class satisfaction and ensure timely, quality, and safe completion.
- Supervise welding activities according to project procedures.
- Ensure welding equipment and consumables are in good condition.
- Comply with safety requirements, including permit-to-work systems and risk assessments.
- Allocate jobs to welders based on skill and qualifications.
- Manage subcontractors to ensure timely, safe, and quality work completion.
- Guide welders on daily tasks and resolve site issues.
- Conduct training sessions on welding machines, processes, and techniques.
- Maintain safety standards per company HSE requirements.
- Perform collision checks, prepare sketches, and mark up drawings for approval and fabrication.
- Verify and source materials for projects as needed.
- Clarify additional work with the owner, inspect and prepare work scopes, obtain approvals, and plan tasks.
- Monitor job progress and schedules, and notify senior engineers and HOD of potential delays.
- Ensure all work completion reports are signed by the owner’s representative and submitted on time.
- Support supervisors, foremen, and planners in pre-planning, scheduling, and job follow-ups to optimize resources.
Job Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Over 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in the Marine and Maritime industry.
- Strong computer, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand electrical specifications, control circuits, and process P&IDs.
- Knowledge of marine and offshore navigation and communication equipment, including class and SOLAS requirements.
- Understanding of low tension main and emergency switchboards, protection devices, switch gears, synchronization, and load sharing.
