Position Overview:
The Supplier Development Engineer will assist in the Supplier Development organization, focusing on building and supporting a cross-functional team to enhance supplier capabilities, particularly in Asia. This role involves aiding in the development and implementation of systems and processes to evaluate suppliers, ensuring they consistently deliver high-quality products on time. The Engineer will be responsible for supporting the improvement of the supplier base to align with corporate needs and will contribute to significant capability and improvement projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in supplier management and a hands-on approach to driving continuous improvement within the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and applying supplier evaluation criteria and scoring, focusing on Quality, delivery, and cost.
- Support new supplier selection through a disciplined and robust qualification process.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to partner with the supply chain, improving supplier capability and quality.
- Assist in aligning supplier capabilities with product needs.
- Engage in problem-solving activities for gaps in supplier capability or quality, and support improvement projects utilizing Lean/TPS methodologies, Six Sigma scorecards, and assessments.
- Work alongside Supplier Quality Engineers in Asia and partner with global Quality team members to drive supplier base improvements.
- Utilize experience with Six Sigma, Lean/Toyota Production System, and engineering to evaluate organizational capabilities and areas for improvement.
- Monitor supplier performance indicators, based on scorecards and rankings, to aid in developing the supply base's ability to consistently meet or exceed company needs.
- Provide technical expertise and support for suppliers in manufacturing complex parts and sub-assemblies.
- Review and ensure manufacturing processes yield parts compliant with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Participate in PFMEA activities, Work Instruction Improvements, and Control Plan effectiveness with suppliers.
- Support the execution of the Supplier Development Engineering Playbook and assist in creating strategic improvement plans for key suppliers.
- Foster cross-functional engagement to remove roadblocks and improve supplier performance.
- Identify and help eliminate risks that may prevent suppliers from meeting performance targets, escalating issues as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- BS in Engineering.
- Experience in leading improvements with suppliers, preferably in industrial equipment, automotive, semiconductor, or medical manufacturing environments.
- Typically 5-8 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with Six Sigma; Black Belt certification is preferred.
- Familiarity with Lean or Toyota Production System; certification is preferred.
- Experience with machining, plating, and/or assembly processes is preferred.
- Proficiency in using Six Sigma/quality tools and APQP (PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC, MSA, etc.).
- Experience in Supply Chain, Operations, Business Management, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with project management and Kaizen facilitation.
- Ability to effectively interface with various levels of leadership.
- Proven problem-solving skills, including interpreting business performance and financial data, defining actions, and implementing solutions.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation (GD&T) is preferred.
- Experience in performing production readiness and rate readiness reviews/assessments.
- Effective collaboration skills, with the ability to motivate and influence others without direct reporting relationships.
- Experience working with global suppliers/customers.
Basic Salary: SGD5,000 – SGD7,000 per month
